How to find the right mentor 💎
I met my mentor (even though he would never admit to that noscript) about two years ago back when i was a first year and barely knew anything besides the content my school had thought me, which was just c++.
he guided me from making my first Figma design📱 , to learning css proficiently , to picking up javanoscript and svelte 📱 and hes even the person who sent me the link to codenight and some of the community channels for me to even know Ethiopian developers had channels like robi makes stuff ( i thought he was a 30 year old white guy) and Tz and even convinced me to create this channel.
✅ A mentor is supposed to guide you towards the right direction, not spoon feed you and tell you what to do day by day .
✅ A mentor should be patient as hell because you will ask a whole lot of dumb questions before you get good at anything, there are a lot of basic things that took me hours to understand and annoyed him by asking questions but he didn't get frustrated or call me an idiot because he gets that learning something new might be hard
✅ A mentor should also be a friend , you'll have an easier time if you see them as a friend as well and talk about regular casual stuff as well rather than just someone that's teaching you
✅ Your mentor should not be easily surpassable , and should also be striving to get better constantly , i send a 12 hour coding time screenshot, bro will send back 13 💀
✅ A mentor should be happy to see you succeed , if brook has one supporter left , then I know its gonna be him, bros genuinely happy to see me win and that's rare to find
👋 So if you see someone that actually has these traits, ask them, most people are willing to help
