World religions work like protocols for accessing metaphysics. If you didn’t grow up in one, none of them are intuitive to you because each relies on a specific sentiment. Religion takes that sentimental impulse and turns it toward understanding the deeper structure of reality; clearly for those who can grasp it, and still meaningfully for those who can’t go as far. You can choose where to place that sentiment. That’s why faith matters: it acts like a sense-organ, something you cultivate so you can perceive aspects of reality that stay hidden without it.

Growing up in a “religious” “god-fearing” house but unable to believe or participate in any of it made me question my satisfactions, or lack there of: how “real” were my observations of reality around me if I didn’t involve gods framework? How would I know if I’m having a religious experience if that feeling is blocked, and completely alien to me? I’m still more interested in gnosis rather than doctrines. In many ways the mystical way is easier for the person who wasn’t indoctrinated - the path of the raj yogi recognizing the world as, essentially, an endless success of sensory events, and the underlying undercurrent of “I Am” as the one and only constant. Buddhism and neoplatonism were attractive to me becuase they pragmatically separated levels of reality when ritual was the the basis instead of religion; its why I think a meditation routine is helpful to cultivate for those who grew up disconnected. You can build intuition and sentimental impulse.

More on the note, this is very true. Now everything is about your environment and how much you’re protected/protect yourself from the rot. There’s a time traveling quality to being online, most people are spending their time (life) in the future or the past, your age is just a blurry placeholder as frequency hop in that world. The acceleration of information has collapsed the old sequences of development, the pace (and quality) of the feed becomes the pace of identity. I’ve talked to 40 year olds who act 20 and 20 year olds who seem like they’re 40. This has always been a thing but it’s much more obvious with the internet + genZ and millennials.
