people who come from families that have had a lot of money for a long time, which gives them a high social position.

اولد مانی، که استایلش هم خیلی جدیداً معروف شده، به آدمایی میگن که نسل اندر نسل پولدار بودن و یجورایی تو خون‌شونه!

Antonym: new money = کسی که ثروتش از راه کار کردن یا ...بهش رسیده نه ازطرف خونواده

نکته: این کلمه uncountable هست (غ‌ق‌شمارش)؛ پس old moneys نداریم!

EG: Most members of the club come from old money.


🌀 youth: (noun)

the period of time when someone is young.

جوانی / جوانان / [یک فرد] جوان

نکته: درحالت‌های مختلف این کلمه می‌تونه countable یا uncountable باشه؛
☆ زمانی‌که معنای "شخص جوان" بده، قابل شمارش هست ->
EG: A gang of youths on motorbikes.
گروهی از جوانان موتورسوار (سوار بر موتور)
☆ ولی زمانی‌که معنای جوانی (دوران جوانی) بده غیرقابل‌شمارش هست ->
EG: The memory of their youth.
خاطرات جوانی‌شان.
❌ SO DO NOT SAY: their youths❌

نکته: حالت دیگه‌ای وجود داره که youth در بطن خودش معنی‌ جمع داره! = the youth (جوانان)
مثل the elderly (سالمندان)
the police (پلیس‌ها)
که شکل کلمه مفرد هست، ولی در معنی حالت جمع داره.
جمع بودن این گونه کلمات با the قبل از کلمه نشون داده می‌شه.

to exchange a cheque etc for cash = نقد کردن [چک]

مت چکش را نقد کرد.

اون‌ها کارت اعتباری قبول نمی‌کنند، پس باید نقدی پرداخت کنی.

EG: The traffic police will accept fines in cash.
(پلیس راهنمایی و رانندگی جریمه‌ی نقدی قبول می‌کند -> تحت‌الفظی: پلیس راهنمایی و رانندگی جریمه‌ها را به صورت نقد قبول می‌کند.)
EG: I'd like to pay in cash.
(می‌خوام نقدی/به صورت نقد پرداخت کنم.)

🐋 Used to:
توضیح بیشترشو توی گرامر می‌دم اما؛

زمانی‌از این استراکچر استفاده می‌کنیم که بخوایم نشون بدیم کاری در گذشته انجام می‌شده (معمولا به صورت یه عادت یا کار تکرارشونده) ولی الان نه.
EG: She used to be a long-distance runner.
او [قبلا] یک دونده دوی مسافت طولانی (استقامت) بود. => ولی الان دیگه نیست!

EG: I didn't use to sleep very well, but then I started doing yoga and it really helps.
من قبلا خوب نمی‌خوابیدم، ولی بعد یوگا رو شروع کردم و [یوگا] واقعا کمک می‌کنه. => الان دیگه خوب می‌خوابم!

نکته: اگر بعد از used to فعل ساده نیاد، دیگه به معنایی که بالا گفتیم نیست! بلکه معنی "عادت کردن" خواهد داشت.
و اینکه استراکچرش به صورت "be used to" هست.
(اگر اسم و فرم ing- یک فعل بیاد، معنی عادت کردن داره)

EG: I'm used to long hours of work.
من به ساعت کاری طولانی عادت کردم.
EG: Linda's used to walking up the hill.
لیندا عادت دارد از تپه بالا برود.

به معنای تمام شدن وقت

در هر صورت، به هرحال، بگذریم

(درواقع یعنی کسی حرف منو باور نمی‌کنه.)

EG: Anyway, why didn’t you call the police?
بگذریم، چرا به پلیس زنگ نزدی؟
نکته: در اینجا ANYWAY برای چشم‌پوشی و ایگنور کردن جزئیات به کار رفته.

نکته: خیلی‌ها از anyways استفاده می‌کنن و تصور می‌کنن معنیش با anyway فرق داره؛ درحالیکه خیلی از دیکشنری‌ها اصلا anyways رو قبول ندارن. شما هم ازش استفاده نکنین😆🐋

نکته: سه جا میشه از anyway در جمله استفاده کرد:
۱. ابتدای جمله + ،
Anyway, .....
۲. ، + بین دو جمله مرکب + ،
....., anyway, ....
۳. آخر جمله (کاما نیاز ندارد)
.... anyway


🌀barge: (noun / verb)

دوبه (نوعی قایق که کف آن تخت است و به کمک کشتی دیگری حرکت می‌کند نه به صورت مستقل)

نکته: being at sea به معنای بودن کنار دریاست (نه روی آب).

نکته: being at sea یک معنای اصطلاحی هم داره، یعنی deeply confused، بشدت گیج و گم‌گشته بودن، being lost.
توی شعر ممکنه لانا منظورش از barge at sea اشاره‌ش به همین معنی بوده باشه.
