🗣 Strait of Hormuz closure could trigger global economic disaster – expert

🔊 Iran closing the Strait of Hormuz in response to US–Israeli strikes could lead to “an unprecedented global economic catastrophe,” Egyptian expert Mohamed Mehran tells Sputnik.

🔶 The closure may add to halting “the flow of millions of barrels of oil per day” through the strait, which could result in a "mad increase in crude prices to $300 per barrel,” according to Mehra.

🔶 He warns of “catastrophic economic consequences for Europe, Japan, China, South Korea, and India, which rely heavily” on State of Hormuz oil supplies.

🔶 Even a short-term halt in such deliveries could cause “global recession, hyperinflation, and a severe energy crisis, which would hit developing countries the hardest,” Mehran cautions.

🚨 Mosaic defense: Iran’s strategic insurance against enemy decapitation attacks

Mosaic Defense “is a system of decentralized command and control of the armed forces, and the launching of strikes against predetermined targets according to predetermined plans,” prolific Russian military observer Igor Korotchenko told Sputnik.

“It’s clear that Iran’s military and political leadership assumed that some of them would be killed in a first strike. Therefore, plans were developed in advance, and necessary resources allocated, to ensure that waves of missile attacks by the IRGC and the Iranian Army would be as effective as possible,” Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of Russia's National Defense magazine, and director of the Center for Analysis of World Arms Trade, explained.

Mosaic Defense was the “only way” Iran could conceive of waging a sustained conflict against a conventionally superior adversary, Korotchenko stressed.

Its main advantage – which proved its worth after Saturday’s surprise US-Israeli aggression, was “the ability to continue armed resistance even after Iran’s top leaders were killed and air defenses weakened by US and Israeli strikes.”

If the current intensity of Iranian strikes continues, “the situation for its adversaries will become, to put it mildly, uncomfortable, and in some cases, perhaps even critical,” the analyst stressed.

💬 “Iran has clearly abandoned any red lines for those countries with US facilities or joint economic projects on their territory,” Korotchenko noted. Having targeted military facilities, it will now “methodically strike Gulf countries’ infrastructure to pressure them to use diplomacy to deter the US from further escalation.”

“The main question now is the resilience of Iran’s air defenses,” and its ability to withstand US and Israeli air attacks.

💬 “We’re currently in a critical phase of events. We’ll see what the next 5-7 days hold in store; they’ll reveal possible future directions. For now, Iran’s domestic political situation remains stable, and most importantly, this decentralized control model is showing its advantages, something neither Trump nor Netanyahu likely expected,” Korotchenko summed up.

🚨 Iran’s missile might vs. America’s arsenal: Who will run out first?

💬 “If the US continues to use its missiles in such a manner, their stockpile will swiftly run out,” Russian military expert Yuri Knutov tells Sputnik, commenting on a recent video of apparently 10 Patriot interceptors downing just one Iranian ballistic missile.

US missile stockpile on the verge

Knutov explains that the US missile stockpile includes about 400 Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) interceptors, which “may be already exhausted in 10 days even if they are used properly.”

💬 “As for Patriot interceptors, their larger stockpile could be exhausted in around three weeks, especially if 10 such missiles are launched to hit one Iranian air target,” the expert points out.

According to him, the US quickly increasing the production of the aforementioned missiles is unrealistic, given that the monthly output currently stands at merely 55, which is “not serious.”

Iran’s ‘trump card’

💬 “So, Iran now has a very important trump card. By strategically using its ballistic missiles and saving the advanced hypersonic Fateh missiles for the final stage, Tehran has a chance to deal a very painful blow to Israel and the US and avenge the surprise attack on the Islamic Republic,” the expert notes.

He says that when it comes to Iranian ballistic missiles, they might not be exhausted for another month, and despite their low accuracy, the mass use of this munition yields results.

💬 “Out of a large number of launched missiles, one or two hit their targets, which is a significant result. It creates a psychological effect and, in turn, impacts the enemy’s morale. Therefore, when we talk about Iran’s use of ballistic missiles, this tactic has so far proven effective,” Knutov concludes.
