🗽 In the center of New York, a rally was held in support of the Russian Federation and the republics of Donbass with the slogans "Close NATO", "Stop the terror of neo-Nazis in Ukraine."
The participants said that Americans are being massively "bombarded" by Western propaganda and they simply do not know all the circumstances of the Ukrainian crisis.

🏙 NY bail law fight emblematic of Democrats’ debate on crime
It’s hard to find anyone on board with New York Gov. Kathy Hochul’s plan to toughen the state’s bail laws, two years after they were retooled to keep people from being jailed because they are poor.
New York changed its bail laws in response to public outcry over prisoners accused of minor crimes being held in jail for extended periods while awaiting trial because they couldn’t afford to pay bail.
The state’s answer was to eliminate cash bail for many nonviolent offenses, a reform that frustrated some law enforcement officials who warned that people released back to the streets would commit new crimes. But with violent crime up across America, crime rates have been an easy target and longstanding bogeyman for Republicans, who have wasted no opportunity to make it a campaign issue in races around the US.

📕 Cuomo files suit against NY ethics board over book profits
Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday filed a lawsuit against the state’s ethics commission, the latest move in an ongoing dispute over his earnings from a book about his efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic. Cuomo accused the Joint Commission on Public Ethics of violating his constitutional rights and showing “extraordinary bias against him.”
In December, JCOPE ordered Cuomo to turn over money from his book “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic.” Cuomo’s camp decried the order and promised a legal fight.
However, shortly thereafter, the state attorney general’s office issued a letter saying the commission had more steps to take before the office could get involved in trying to claim the money.

🚫 Border asylum limits ending, but not Biden’s migrant woes
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced Friday that it would lift the asylum ban, known as Title 42, next month. The ban had become increasingly hard to justify as pandemic restrictions ended around the country.
By delaying the end of Title 42 for nearly two months, Biden appeared to be seeking a political balance between liberals who want the policy scrapped and moderates who have joined Republicans in supporting continued restrictions. He may end up satisfying neither. The expected influx of migrants could create a damaging political crisis for Biden with the November midterm elections approaching.
Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said Friday that a long-term solution “can only come from comprehensive legislation that brings lasting reform to a fundamentally broken system.”

🏞 Tribes seek more inclusion, action from US officials
President Joe Biden issued a memo during his first month in office, reaffirming previous executive orders on tribal consultation and directing federal agencies to spell out how they’ll comply. That set in motion US Interior Secretary Deb Haaland's efforts to give tribal leaders a direct line of communication to the Interior Department.
Haaland’s selection as the first Native American to serve in the position opened a door for tribes who pointed to a history fraught with broken promises. But frustrations persist among tribal leaders who say their conversations with the federal government have not resulted in action on the ground.
Under the US Constitution, treaties and statutes, the federal government must consult meaningfully and in good faith with Native American and Alaska Native tribes when making decisions or taking action that is expected to impact them.
