⚡According to the Russian Defence Ministry, Ukrainian special services are planning a provocation using chemical substances to accuse Russia of allegedly striking civilian infrastructure near the Yuzhniy port in Odessa.
Kiev is expected to imitate a missile strike by the Russian Armed Forces on the Ukrainian Navy base there, blowing up a cold storage facility in the port in Odessa. The Kiev regime has sent a tank with 10 tons of ammonia there. Law enforcement and special services in the Odessa region have been issued personal protective equipment

⚡The Kiev regime is preparing provocations to discredit the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate on Easter Eve - Russian MoD
Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church have received recommendations from President Zelensky’s office: "Avoid holding traditional Easter celebrations on the night of 23-24 April, replace them with an online broadcast of divine services in churches". At the same time, these notifications have not been sent to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate in order to organise a mass gathering of believers in the churches.
Kiev is creating a situation where an incident in churches provoked by the Security Service of Ukraine can be used to start a new wave of Russophobia in Ukraine and abroad, the Russian Defence Ministry says in a statement.

🏙 County grants approval for Amazon’s helix-shaped HQ tower
The Arlington County Board gave unanimous approval Saturday to Amazon’s plans to build a unique, helix-shaped tower as the centerpiece of its emerging second 350-foot tower headquarters in northern Virginia. The spiral design features a walkable ramp wrapping around the building with trees and greenery planted to resemble a mountain hike. Amazon has said it hopes to complete the project in 2025.
The new office towers will support a second headquarters for Amazon that is expected to welcome more than 25,000 workers when it’s complete. Because skyscrapers are banned in the District of Columbia, and the Amazon buildings will be among the tallest in Arlington County, from some vantage points the helix will dominate the region’s skyline like no building other than the Washington Monument.

US military drops appeal of Hawaii order to drain fuel tanks
The US government on Friday dropped its appeals of a Hawaii order requiring it to remove fuel from a massive military fuel storage facility that leaked petroleum into the Navy’s water system at Pearl Harbor last year.
Petroleum leaked from the Red Hill tanks into a Navy drinking water well late last year, sickening 6,000 people mostly living in military housing. Medical teams treated people complaining of nausea, headaches, rashes and other symptoms. The military put about 4,000 families in hotels for several months while it cleaned its water pipes.
The tanks also pose a threat to water consumed by 400,000 on Oahu. That’s because they sit 100 feet (30 meters) above an aquifer that serves the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, in addition to the Navy’s water system.

🪚 Why so many hourly workers are choosing to unionize?
With stagnant wages, enthusiasm for unions has snowballed among low-wage workers, with successful union elections at an Amazon warehouse on Staten Island and a pair of Verizon stores in Washington state. Earlier this week, five Starbucks locations in Virginia, all overwhelmingly voted to unionize.
But another motivation for workers is the fact that this summer, the federal minimum wage will have remained frozen at $7.25 for 13 years. As the federal minimum wage has lagged behind price increases over the last 13 years and lost about 21% of its value, income inequality has soared. Economist Dean Baker reports that had the federal minimum wage kept up with worker productivity, it would now be over $20 per hour.

🚫 A California tech CEO is running for US Senate on one issue: banning Tesla's Full Self-Driving technology
Dan O'Dowd launched a multimillion-dollar ad campaign this week that took aim at Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) software, which the self-described billionaire called "absolutely terrible." The ad, a compilation of videos depicting the software going haywire, will run across four major media markets in 36 states
O'Dowd is the CEO of Green Hills Software, a company that builds operating systems and programming tools for embedded systems. In January, he took out a full-page advertisement in The New York Times announcing the launch of The Dawn Project, a campaign to ban unsafe software from safety systems.
The CEO's Senate bid could throw a wrench in Alex Padilla's run for office, California's appointed junior senator.

🇪🇺 Google, Meta*, and others will have to explain their algorithms under new EU legislation
The EU has agreed on another ambitious piece of legislation to police the online world. Early Saturday morning after hours of negotiations, the bloc agreed on the broad terms of the Digital Services Act, or DSA, which will force tech companies to take greater responsibility for content that appears on their platforms.
New obligations include removing illegal content and goods more quickly, explaining to users and researchers how their algorithms work, and taking stricter action on the spread of misinformation. Companies face fines of up to six percent of their annual turnover for non-compliance.
The rules will apply to all companies 15 months after the act is voted into law, or from 1 January 2024, whichever is later.
