📝 Two GOP lawmakers announced they have filed a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of fines issued against them for failing to complete their security screenings to enter the House chamber.

Republican Reps. Louie Gohmert of Texas and Andrew Clyde claim that Sergeant-at-Arms William Walker and Chief Administrative Officer Catherine Szpindor in the course of their official duties violated the 27th Amendment of the US Constitution which states, “No law varying the compensation for the services of the Senators and Representatives shall take effect until an election of Representatives shall have intervened.”

👨‍⚖️ District Judge Terry Doughty granted a preliminary injunction to 13 states who allege that the Biden administration's suspension bypasses a number of bureaucratic steps and subsequently violated several laws, including the Administrative Procedure Act.
The suit also claims that a number of energy sector jobs are endangered by the now-months-long suspension imposed by the administration.

🦠 A new study has found that the COVID-19 coronavirus was circulating in the United States several weeks before the first documented cases were identified, paralleling the first detected cases in China, where the outbreak is commonly believed to have begun.

The study found that in five states - Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin - seven people who gave blood samples had antibodies to SARS-CoV-2. Three were from Illinois and were delivered on January 7, 17 days before the first case was identified on January 24.
