📉Stocks are falling on Wall Street, erasing a rally from a day earlier, as markets assess the looming fallout from the Federal Reserve’s stepped-up fight against inflation.
On Wednesday, the Fed raised its benchmark interest rate by half a percentage point as part of an effort to slow consumer borrowing and tamp down inflation, which is at a four-decade high. The market rallied when Fed Chair Jerome Powell dismissed the possibility the Fed could resort to a more aggressive three-quarters point hike in the future.
Now, traders are starting to fret more about the impact of the Fed’s moves to dampen demand and slow the economy.

👉President Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and Labor Secretary Martin J. Walsh met Thursday at the White House with several union organizers involved in successful campaigns at companies including Amazon and Starbucks.
According to the White House, the meeting was intended to discuss how the recent organizing successes can inspire other workers to join or form a union.
“President Biden stopped by the discussion and thanked the worker organizers for their leadership in organizing unions, the inspiration they offer to workers across the country who may want to organize, and their contributions to the worker organizing momentum that is growing across the country,” according to the White House.

🔎“Former President Donald Trump asked Mark Esper, his defense secretary, about the possibility of launching missiles into Mexico to ‘destroy the drug labs’ and wipe out the cartels, maintaining that the United States’ involvement in a strike against its southern neighbor could be kept secret, Mr. Esper recounts in his upcoming memoir,” the New York Times reports.
“Those remarkable discussions in 2020 were among several moments that Mr. Esper described in the book, A Sacred Oath, as leaving him all but speechless when he served the 45th president.”
The book, to be published on Tuesday, offers a stunningly candid perspective from a former defense secretary, and it illuminates key episodes from the Trump presidency, including some that were unknown or underexplored.

🔻The U.S. abortion fight has galvanized the abortion debate in Canada. “It’s very fortuitous timing for us,” said youth coordinator Josie Luetke, as she listed off the political races in which CLC is now directing its considerable resources: the federal Conservative leadership contest, a June election in Ontario, and even city elections in the same province this fall.
Canada’s Campaign Life Coalition has fired up its fundraising machine to activate thousands of its members who will open their wallets at a moment’s notice.
The CLC fundraising powerhouse is doing everything it can to support Leslyn Lewis in the Conservative leadership race, for example. The Ontario MP is the only candidate who meets the group’s rigid test of moral purity.
“If candidates want our support, they have to be 100 percent pro-life,” said Luetke.

🔎A cryptocurrency super PAC is poised to make a dent in Pennsylvania’s Senate Democratic primary by supporting Democrat John Fetterman.
Joe Calvello, a spokesperson for Fetterman, said that “even though this PAC is supporting John, it doesn’t change his view that super PACs are an example of how deeply broken and dysfunctional our campaign finance system is.”
While the super PAC declined to share how much it expects to spend on the Pennsylvania Senate race, the group has booked more than $200,000 in the next two weeks running up to the May 17 primary, according to the ad-tracking firm AdImpact.
