🇧🇷😰Deforestation detected in the Brazilian Amazon broke all records for April, which followed similar new records set in January and February, replicating a worrisome uptick in destruction in a state deep within the rainforest.

“The April number is terrifying. Due to the rain, it is traditionally a month with less deforestation,” Suely Araújo, senior public policy specialist at the Climate Observatory.

Satellite alerts of deforestation corresponded to more than 1,000 square kilometers (nearly 400 square miles), the highest figure for that month in seven years of record-keeping and 74% more than the same month in 2021, which was the prior record.

⚽️💰Chelsea Football Club on Saturday confirmed its new owner is a consortium led by Todd Boehly, an American billionaire investor and part-owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The deal was closed for £4.25 billion ($5.2 billion), though the purchase is yet to be approved by the UK government and the Premier League.

The high price, one of the highest that has ever been paid for a professional sports team, follows a bidding war that went on for nearly two months.

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich owned the club for 19 years before putting it up for sale this March amid his alleged ties to Russia's Vladimir Putin. The English Premier League team said it had "agreed on terms," but exact details of the sale, which is expected to be completed by the end of May, would come later.

☕️👀Over 500 kg (1,102 lb) of cocaine estimated to be worth more than 50 million Swiss francs ($50.65 million) have been found in a container of coffee bean bags for Nestle's (NESN.S) Nespresso factory in Romont in western Switzerland, the cantonal police said on Thursday.

Police were informed on Monday night by Nespresso that staff had found an undefined white substance while unloading bags of coffee beans that had just arrived from Brazil, the police said in a statement. Analyses showed the substance was cocaine. "The substance in question did not come into contact with any of our products or production equipment used to make our products," Nespresso said in an emailed statement.

🇫🇷French President Emmanuel Macron was sworn into office for a second term on Saturday after his election victory over far-right rival Marine Le Pen. In his short speech to nearly 500 invited guests, the president spoke of the need to innovate at a time of unprecedented challenges for the world.

"We will take action relentlessly with a goal, which is to be a more independent nation, to live better, and to build our own French and European responses to the century's challenges," Macron said.

Macron answered criticism from many voters, who say he came across as out of touch and arrogant during his first term. He promised to act with "respect" and "consideration." He also vowed to "build a planet that is more livable, a France that is more alive and a stronger France."
