🖼 Warhol’s ‘Marilyn’ auction nabs $195M

Andy Warhol’s “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn” sold for a cool $195 million on Monday, making the iconic portrait of Marilyn Monroe the most expensive work by a US artist ever sold at auction.

It’s also the most expensive piece from the 20th century ever auctioned, according to Christie’s auction house in New York, where the sale took place.

The proceeds of the sale will go to the Thomas and Doris Ammann Foundation Zurich, which put the painting up for auction. The foundation aims to help children with health care and educational programs.

⚖️ No charges against Mike Tyson for punching airplane passenger Authorities will not file criminal charges against former heavyweight champ Mike Tyson after he was filmed punching a fellow first-class passenger aboard a plane at San Francisco International Airport last month, prosecutors announced Tuesday. The San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office said it has closed the case and decided against pursuing charges based on “the circumstances surrounding the confrontation.” Representatives for Tyson previously said the boxer was on a flight with “an aggressive passenger who began harassing him and threw a water bottle at him while he was in his seat.”

🦠 Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has tested positive for COVID-19 after having been vaccinated and boosted against the virus. According to Gates, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation planned to come together for the first time in two years Tuesday; however, he noted he will be attending virtually.

Gates, 66, first warned about the possibility of a COVID-type outbreak years ago, and he spent much of 2020 speaking to anyone who would listen about the precautions people needed to take to stem the spread of the disease after it arrived in the US early that year. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed hundreds of millions of dollars in funding for COVID-19 initiatives, including vaccine development and distribution.

Ukraine’s GTS operator says gas transit to Europe via Sokhranovka station halted from May 11
⛽️Russian energy giant Gazprom has confirmed that it has received a notification from the Ukrainian operator GTS about its intention to stop gas transit via the Sokhranovka point, noting it sees no signs of the "force majeure" or "any obstacles for continuing normal operations."

"Today, Gazprom received an official notification from the Transmission System Operator of Ukraine that the Ukrainian side, citing force majeure circumstances, is terminating reception of gas for transit through the Ukrainian gas measuring station Sokhranovka starting 7:00 [04:00 GMT] on May 11," Gazprom spokesman Sergey Kupriyanov said on Telegram, adding that the operator suggests redirecting transit to the Sudzha station.

🗣 White House encourages Roe v. Wade protests outside Supreme Court justices' homes

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki defended protests staged outside SCOTUS justices' homes after plans to abolish Roe v Wade were earlier leaked. 'Just because people are passionate does not mean they are violent,' she told reporters Tuesday.

A reporter reminded the press secretary that the protests were in response to a pending court case, and thus could run up against federal law. 

Under a federal law, 18 USC 1507, any individual who 'pickets or parades' with the 'intent of interfering with, obstructing, or impeding the administration of justice, or with the intent of influencing any judge, juror, witness, or court officer' near a US court or 'near a building or residence occupied or used by such judge, juror, witness, or court officer' will be fined or 'imprisoned not more than one year, or both.'

🗳 Election 2022: Trump faces new test in Nebraska

Nebraska Republicans will pick a nominee for governor Tuesday in a bitter primary race that was upended in recent weeks after a leading candidate endorsed by former President Donald Trump was accused of groping at least eight women over the last few years.

Charles Herbster, a businessman and cattle breeder who has denied the allegations, is in a nine-way GOP primary to replace Republican Gov. Pete Ricketts, who’s prevented by term limit laws from running again.

The winner will emerge as a strong favorite in November’s general election in Republican-dominated Nebraska. State Sen. Carol Blood is the top candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor. Nebraska and West Virginia are holding primary elections on Tuesday, with select races providing some measure of the former president’s enduring sway with GOP voters.

🎲 Watery graves recall early Las Vegas’ organized crime days

Stories about long-departed Las Vegas organized crime figures are surfacing after a second set of unidentified human remains were revealed as the water level falls on drought-stricken Lake Mead.

Boaters spotted the decomposed body of a man in a rusted barrel stuck in the mud of newly exposed shoreline. Las Vegas police say he had been shot, probably between the mid-1970s and early 1980s. A few days later, two sisters were paddle boarding on the lake near a former marina resort and noticed bones on a newly surfaced sand bar more than 9 miles from the barrel.

The lake that slakes the thirst of 40 million people in cities, farms and tribes across seven Southwestern states is down to about 30% of capacity.

💧 LA plans to impose twice weekly landscape watering limit

The city of Los Angeles plans to require residents and businesses to reduce outdoor landscape watering from three days per week to two as California’s drought deepens, Mayor Eric Garcetti announced Tuesday.

The planned restriction for Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers is less severe than a recent decision by the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California requiring some customers it supplies to cut watering to once weekly.

Garcetti still urged homeowners to replace thirsty lawns with drought-tolerant landscaping.

The Ka-52 'Alligator' is capable of destroying a target in zones which are inaccessible to enemy air defense systems and then quickly dodge possible return fire.

❗️The latest updates on the Ukraine op from the Russian Defence Ministry:

▪️Russian aviation hit 93 Ukrainian objects overnight, including two command posts, 69 areas of concentrated enemy forces and equipment, and three ammunition depots of the Ukrainian army

▪️Missile troops and artillery hit 407 areas of concentrated forces and equipment, destroyed 13 command posts, four positions of Osa-AKM anti-aircraft missile systems and 14 ammunition depots

▪️As a result of strikes, more than 280 nationalists were destroyed, 59 units of military equipment were disabled

▪️Air defense system destroyed nine Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, including four in Kharkov region, three near Rubezhnoye in LPR, one near Snake Island, and one Bayraktar-TB2 in Nikolaev region

▪️Some 164 Ukrainian aircraft, 125 helicopters, 807 unmanned aerial vehicles, 302 anti-aircraft missile systems, 2998 tanks and other combat armoured vehicles, 360 multiple launch rocket systems, and 1455 field artillery and mortars of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been destroyed since the beginning of the operation on 24 February.
