📲🔴Governor Kathy Hochul called out social media companies in the wake of Saturday’s mass shooting in Buffalo, saying the platform providers must be more vigilant in monitoring hateful content.

“Mark my words: we’ll be aggressive in our pursuit of anyone who subscribes to the ideals professed by other white supremacists, and how there’s a feeding frenzy on social media platforms, where hate festers more hate,” she said. “That has to stop.”

Gov. Hochul said the fact that the live stream was not taken down sooner demonstrates a responsibility those who provide the platforms have, morally and ethically, to ensure hate cannot exist there. She also said she hopes it will also demonstrate a legal responsibility for those providers.

🦠😷The Illinois Department of Public Health reports 40,026 new cases of COVID-19 over the past week. That’s about 10,000 more cases than the week before, when there were 30,633 new cases. Health officials also report 45 more COVID-19-related deaths since May 6, 2022.

According to the CDC, 23 counties in Illinois are now rated at the Medium Community Level, including Whiteside County. At the Medium Community Level, people at risk of severe health outcomes are advised to take additional precautions to protect themselves from the virus, including masking up in indoor spaces.

As of Thursday night, 909 people were hospitalized with COVID-19. Of those, 87 patients were in the ICU, and 25 with COVID-19 were on ventilators.

😕🍼🍼With stores unable to keep up with the demand for baby formula, the shortage is more than an inconvenience for the 42% of American families who use it–it’s a crisis that’s putting the health of their babies in jeopardy.

The White House claims the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is working ‘around the clock to address the emergency. The US Department of Health and Human Services has launched a website aimed at helping parents find the formula they need. But Abbott Nutrition, the nation’s largest formula producer, says it’s still months away from restoring production at its Sturgis, Michigan plant.

The Nation reported in 2020 that there’s a monopoly on baby formula in the US, with Abbott Laboratories, Reckitt Benckiser, and Nestlé controlling around 95% of the market. One headline from Fortune Magazine offered a concise explanation: “America is running out of baby formula because three companies control the market, and babies aren’t that profitable.”

🔎Nebraska governor says he will call a special session to pass a total abortion ban if Roe is overturned. “Nebraska is a pro-life state. I believe life begins at conception, and those are babies too,” Ricketts declares to the media on “State of the Union” when asked if he thought the state should require a young girl who was raped to carry the pregnancy to term.

“If Roe v. Wade, which is a horrible constitutional decision, gets overturned by the Supreme Court, which we’re hopeful of, here in Nebraska, we’re going to take further steps to protect those preborn babies.” Governor, Ricketts said.

Ricketts plans to travel to Georgia this week to campaign on behalf of GOP Gov. Brian Kemp, who faces a primary challenge from former US Sen. David Perdue. Trump has endorsed and vigorously supported Perdue in an attempt to get back at Kemp for refusing to help him overturn his defeat in 2020.
