📸 New York Times obtains never-before-seen photos of early days at Guantanamo Bay
For 20 years, the US military has tightly controlled what the world can see of the detainees at Guantanamo Bay. These are images taken by military photographers who witnessed operations after the US invasion of Afghanistan and four months after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.
About 780 men and boys were brought to Gitmo under then-President George W. Bush, who referred to prisoners as 'the worst of the worst.' Only 35 men remain at the prison, with 10 of them waiting for trials to begin.
Former President Barack Obama was stopped from closing Guantanamo, but recent administrations have slowly lowered the amount of people still detained. Some 17 Guantanamo inmates who remain are deemed 'high-value' and will probably never be released.

📌 The latest updates on the Ukraine op from the Russian Defence Ministry:
▪️ Russian air defence destroyed weapons and military equipment delivered to a group of Ukrainian nationalists near Udachnoe railway station in DPR; a temporary foreign mercenary deployment site in LPR was also destroyed;
▪️ Russian air defences have shot down eight Ukrainian drones, including one Bayraktar TB-2 during the night;
▪️ Russian aviation has hit one command post as well as the Buk-M1 air defence system; 63 areas of concentrated manpower and Ukrainian military equipment were eliminated;
▪️ In total, 201 Ukrainian airplanes and 130 helicopters, 1,196 drones, 338 anti-aircraft missile systems, 3,525 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 515 multiple launch rocket systems, 1,933 field artillery and mortars, as well as 3,583 units of special military vehicles were destroyed during the operation
