🌔🪳NASA has requested the RR Auction of New Hampshire to halt the sale of a lunar sample, which was digested by cockroaches as part of an experiment in 1969, Space.Com reports.

The Apollo 11 Lunar Soil Experiment comprises what remains from the late Marion Brooks' research into the physiological effects of lunar material on German cockroaches, which were fed with moon dust by NASA scientists in the immediate aftermath of the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar landing mission.

"It is clear and undeniable that the materials consisting of the experiment are owned by NASA," an attorney in NASA's Office of the General Counsel wrote in a letter to the auction.

🌊Explorers have found the world’s deepest shipwreck four miles deep below the Pacific Ocean, CNN reports.

The USS Destroyer Escort Samuel B. Roberts (DE-413), known as the Sammy B, lies at a depth of 22,621 feet in the Philippine Sea. It sank in the Battle off Samar, on October 25, 1944, in which the US Navy defeated three Japanese battleships. The ship carried 224 crew members, 89 of whom were killed.

⚡️The House sent President Joe Biden the most wide-ranging gun violence bill Congress has passed in decades on Friday, a measured compromise that both illustrates progress on the long-intractable issue and a persistent deep-seated partisan divide.

The Democratic-led chamber approved the election-year legislation mostly along party lines, 234-193 vote, capping a spurt of action prompted by voters' revulsion over last month's mass shootings in New York and Texas. The night before, the Senate approved it by a bipartisan 65-33 margin, with 15 Republicans joining all Democrats in supporting a package that senators from both parties had crafted.

The bill would incrementally toughen requirements for young people to buy guns, deny firearms from more domestic abusers and help local authorities temporarily take weapons from people judged to be dangerous.

🔎Gov. Glenn Youngkin acclaimed the much-anticipated Supreme Court ruling released Friday, ending constitutional protections for abortion that had been in place for nearly 50 years.

In Virginia, abortion is currently legal up to 25 weeks in a pregnancy, but Gov. Youngkin has said he's in favor of a 15-week threshold. The governor said that he's asked a number of senators and delegates to work together in an effort to "find areas where we can agree and chart the most successful path forward."

"The Supreme Court of the United States has rightfully returned power to the people and their elected representatives in the states," he said in a tweeted statement. "I'm proud to be a pro-life Governor and plan to take every action I can to protect life."

He went on to share more about his commitment to supporting Virginian families and "unborn lives."
