"A dead end that offers no way out”: US-China ties are at risk of being poisoned by Washington’s “growing Chinaphobia,” Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said.

As Wang held talks with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, he told his counterpart that tensions in the China-US relationship are caused by Washington’s “misperception of China.”

🗣 “The self-contradictions and say-do gap in the US policy toward China reflect serious miscalibration of its views on the world, on China, on China-US relations, and on interests and competition. Many people thus argue that the United States is taking on growing Chinaphobia. If such threat inflation continues unchecked, the United States’ China policy will only lead to a dead-end that offers no way out,” Wang warned.

🔥 Yosemite wildfire is latest threat to giant sequoia trees

The largest grove of giant sequoias in Yosemite National Park was closed Friday and hundreds of people were ordered to evacuate as a wildfire burning through dense forest became the latest in recent years to threaten the world’s largest trees.

More than 500 mature sequoias were threatened but there were no reports of severe damage to any named trees, such as the 3,000-year-old Grizzly Giant. The cause of the fire was under investigation and the rest of the park remained open as nearly 300 firefighters tried to control the flames with the help of two water-dropping helicopters and an air tanker dumping flame retardant.

The fire broke out near Jackson on Monday and temporarily forced about 100 people celebrating the July 4th holiday along a river to seek shelter in a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. facility.

🇺🇸 The US added 372,000 jobs in June, beating forecasts as the economy edges closer to pre-crisis employment

The gain reflects a mild slowdown from May's increase, which was revised to 384,000 from 390,000. The unemployment rate held at 3.6%, according to the report. Economists largely expected the rate to hold steady through the month. Unemployment has lingered at historic lows in 2022 as intense demand for labor leads most job seekers to quickly find work.

Education and health services firms led the way in June, adding 96,000 jobs through the month. Professional and business services firms followed with a 74,000-payroll increase. Leisure and hospitality businesses added 67,000 jobs, with 41,000 of those added payrolls coming from restaurants and bars. Residential building contractors shed 4,500 jobs, underscoring the bottlenecks behind the nationwide housing shortage.

✈️ Trump announces his Boeing 757 private jet is set to return as he hints at 2024 presidential run

As former US President Donald Trump continues to hint at running in the 2024 election cycle, his son has announced that his VIP Boeing 757 private jet is back after an extensive refit.  Writing on Twitter, Eric Trump announced "SHE'S BACK," as a video unveiled the 'TRUMP' wording plastered across the plane in gold writing.

On his Truth Social app, the former president said the plane has been completely modernized and renovated and "looks GREAT, all done in the Great State of Louisiana and coming back to the skies in the Fall of 2022, or maybe sooner."

Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen previously owned the 31-year-old jet. The plane was decked out with 24-karat gold fixtures and seatbelt buckles by Trump.

💰 Western Union and e-commerce giant MercadoLibre team up on multibillion-dollar US-Mexico remittance corridor

Remittance inflows in Mexico grew 22.9% last year to hit $51.42 billion. This makes Mexico one of the top five recipient countries, per World Bank, and more than 95% of those remittances came from the United States.

The sizable Mexican immigrant population in the US can take advantage of Western Union's 61,000 agent locations and a strong digital presence that comprises millions of digital wallets to send money back home. The big takeaway: Mexico's remittance inflow is expected to grow to $56.24 billion this year, making up 7.3% of worldwide inflow.

The company's tie-in with MercadoLibre is astute; it can take advantage of the e-commerce firm's vast user base of over 80 million as it looks to expand services to other Latin American markets.

🇲🇽 Mexico’s Former President Echeverria Dead at 100

Mexico’s Former President Luis Echeverria Alvarez, who led the country in 1970-1976, has died at the age of 100, Mexico’s President Manuel Lopez Obrador has confirmed.

"On behalf of the Government of Mexico, I send respectful condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Luis Echeverria Alvarez, president of Mexico during the six-year term from 1970 to 1976," Obrador said on social media on Saturday.

According to Mexican media reports, the former president died on Friday at his home in Cuernavaca, the capital of Mexico’s Morelos state.

Born on January 17, 1922 in the Mexican capital, Echeverria is remembered for accusations that he (then-Secretary of the Interior) was one of the people responsible for the repression of the student protests in 1968 in the Tlatelolco section of Mexico City, which left scores of young people dead.

Echeverria was arrested on charges of genocide in 2006, but in 2009 the charges were dismissed.
