🆙 The United States has lived through 14 straight months of higher and higher inflation since President Biden and his economic advisors deemed the issue a “temporary” and “transitory” issue that would quickly be brought under control.
▪️ Data put out by the Labor Department this week showed that the Consumer Price Index hit 9.1 percent in June, its sharpest monthly increase since 1981 and the height of the ‘malaise days’ of the late Carter and early Reagan years. On Thursday, Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen admitted that inflation was “unacceptably high,” but blamed Russia.

🚙 An intoxicated Lyft driver in Troy, Michigan, was stopped earlier this month by Troy Police. The arresting officers said they pulled over the 2020 Kia Optima near Rochester Road and Player Drive at 3:21 a.m. for multiple traffic violations. The 38-year-old Detroit woman told them she was a Lyft driver and had a passenger.
Officers said they could smell a strong odor of intoxicants from the vehicle and noticed that the woman's eyes were glossy. When asked about this, she told them she had two bottles of beer before driving.
After performing field sobriety tests poorly, the woman blew .18% on a preliminary breath test, police said, more than double the legal limit of .08%. She was taken to jail, where she blew .18% twice on a Chemical Breath Test. The woman was cited for operating while intoxicated.

🙏🏡 A family was saved from a fire at their house after a woman passing by knocked at their door to alert them. Moss Strong spotted the fire a mile away as she was driving by the family’s house last week, according to CNN.
Josh Ellis and his wife Brittany Downing were watching Stranger Things as their eight kids were sleeping on July 5. The family was unaware that a fire had erupted in their garage. Just as they smelled the fire, the doorbell rang.
Strong is being hailed as a hero for saving the family from a tragedy. “That’s an angel,” Ellis was quoted as saying by KOAT. “She saved our family, no exaggeration about that. She stayed, and she saved our family. I mean, the house was ablaze,” he added.

😷More Americans are catching the coronavirus for the second, third or fourth time. And each time someone contracts COVID-19, they are rolling the dice on whether they will come down with serious health issues.
The majority of Americans have had COVID-19 at some point in time, according to estimates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. But with more than 120,000 new infections reported on average each day – a number that is sure to be a significant undercount as many rely on at-home tests – the pool of Americans who haven’t gotten COVID-19 is getting smaller. In contrast, the number of Americans who are getting reinfected grows.
It’s a reinfection loop that is seizing the country with no immediate end in sight, and it is driven by a coronavirus variant scene that continues to change quickly.

🔻Lawyers defending US basketball player Brittney Griner, facing up to 10 years in prison on drug charges in Russia, have told a Russian court that Griner had permission from a doctor to use medical cannabis to treat an injury.
During the fourth hearing in Griner’s case on Friday, defense lawyer Maria Blagovolina said that a US “attending physician gave Brittney recommendations for the use of medical cannabis.”
“The permission was issued on behalf of the Arizona Department of Health,” she told the courtroom outside Moscow, where the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) All-Star’s trial is taking place.
Griner, who plays for the Phoenix Mercury in the WNBA, was scheduled to play for Russian team UMMC Ekaterinburg in the US off-season – a common move for WNBA players who can make far more money playing abroad.

◼️Ivana Trump, the first wife of former US President Donald Trump, died at 73 after accidentally falling down the stairs of her New York home on July 14, authorities said.
"Our mother was an incredible woman: a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and a loving mother and friend," the family said in a statement.
"She was a survivor. She fled communism and embraced this country. She raised her children in strength, tenacity, compassion, and determination," she adds.
The cause of death was revealed a day later when the local coroner's office reported that Trump had "blunt force injuries" to the torso caused by an "accident." A spokesman for the New York Police Department told AFP that officers responded to a call from her address on the Upper East Side of Manhattan around 12:40 pm (16:40 GMT) on Thursday.

🌮📈A Texas congresswoman took a sting out of First Lady Jill Biden for her recent gaff about the state’s Hispanic community and tacos by comparing the comments to how much inflation has increased the cost of the popular dish.
GOP representative Mayra Flores grilled Biden by tweeting a saucy meme that focused on how “taco inflation” during the current administration was squeezing people’s wallets.
The image also included facts from the Bureau of Labor Statistics showing that the price of cheese has increased by 8.7% compared to a year ago. In that same time, lettuce is up 11.4%, tortillas cost 12.8% more, and carne asada is up 17.4%.
The meme was a dig at FLOTUS Jill Biden, who apologized earlier this week after some were offended by comments she made about tacos and Hispanics during a speech in San Antonio.
