💬NATO-led Kosovo Force (KFOR) makes a statement on the Serbia-Kosovo conflict
🇷🇸 "The US is trying to harass Serbia in Kosovo": key points from Sputnik’s interview with the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yugoslavia Vladislav Jovanović.
▪️ “The United States is trying to harass Serbia with petty provocations to test the waters and find out to what extent Belgrade is ready to protect the Serbs in Kosovo. Their goal, with the help of constant threats and pressure, is to gradually break Serbia down and force it to agree to participate in the implementation of American goals in the Balkans."
▪️ "The US is knocking us [Serbs] out of our comfort zone: faced with the urgent need to protect the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, we are in a more vulnerable position."
▪️ "They [the US] can take advantage of it both inside and out. It will be a policy of wearing Serbia down, not only with Kurti's help and his periodic provocations in Kosovo, but also with the reduction of investments, if we do not fulfill their demands in relation to Russia and China."
▪️ "Serbia is not alone today, and the United States does not like it. They need to solve the problem of the Balkans as soon as possible, and for this, I believe, they will have to reconsider their policy towards Serbia and Kosovo.”

🐥 USDA getting tougher on salmonella products
The federal government on Monday announced proposed new regulations that would force food processors to reduce the amount of salmonella bacteria found in some raw chicken products or risk being shut down.
USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Food Safety Sandra Eskin said it marks the beginning of a broader agency effort to curtail illnesses caused by the salmonella bacteria, which sickens 1.3 million Americans each year. It sends more than 26,000 of them to hospitals and causes 420 deaths, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data.
The CDC says approximately one in every 25 packages of chicken sold at grocery stores contains salmonella bacteria. An outbreak last year tied to frozen breaded raw chicken products caused 36 illnesses in 11 states and sent 12 people to hospitals.

‼️ Beijing to see any Biden Admin. Visit to Taiwan as dangerous, provocative - China UN Envoy ➡️ LIVE UPDATES
Any visit to Taiwan by US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi or the White House will be seen by Beijing as dangerous, Chinese Ambassador to the UN Zhang Jun said at a press briefing.
"Concerning the planned visit of Speaker Pelosi, China has repeatedly made our position very clear, and we have repeatedly expressed our serious concerns and firm opposition to such a visit. As we see it, a visit from the White House or from Pelosi, such a visit is apparently very much dangerous, very much provocative. If the US insists on making the visit, China will take firm and strong measures to safeguard our national sovereignty and territorial integrity," he said on Monday at the beginning of the Chinese presidency of the Security Council.

📚 US begins court battle against publishing giants’ merger
The government and publishing titan Penguin Random House exchanged opening salvos in a federal antitrust trial Monday as the US seeks to block the biggest US book publisher from absorbing rival Simon & Schuster, the combined company would control nearly 50% of the market.
The Justice Department has sued to block the $2.2 billion merger, which would reduce the Big Five US publishers to four. The government’s star witness, bestselling author Stephen King, is expected to testify at Tuesday’s session of the weekslong trial in US District Court in Washington, DC. King’s works are published by Simon & Schuster.
The Big Five — the other three being Hachette, HarperCollins and Macmillan — dominate US publishing, making up 90% of the market top-selling books.

🚛 Amazon's climate pollution is getting way worse
Amazon's greenhouse gas emissions ballooned big time last year despite the company's efforts to sell itself as a leader in climate action. Its carbon dioxide emissions grew an eye-popping 18 percent in 2021 compared to 2020, according to its latest sustainability report.
Amazon generated 71.54 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent last year, about as much pollution as 180 gas-fired power plants might pump out annually. This is the second year in a row that Amazon's climate pollution has grown by double digits since it made a splashy climate pledge and started reporting its emissions publicly in 2019.
For years, many communities where Amazon builds warehouses have called the company out for bringing more smog, soot, and noise to their neighborhoods.

💊 Medicaid expansion breakthrough within reach in N. Carolina
After a decade of vigorous opposition, most North Carolina Republicans have now embraced the idea of expanding the state’s Medicaid program to cover hundreds of thousands of additional low-income adults. Legislative approval finally appears within reach.
The apparent change of heart followed years of GOP suspicion about the 2010 Affordable Care Act, which Republicans derided as “Obamacare” only to see the label, as well as the program, become highly popular.
For years, Republicans said they couldn’t trust Congress to keep the federal government’s promise to pay 90% of the costs of expansion. They said the state’s Medicaid program — now with 2.7 million enrollees — had been overspending for years and was ill-prepared to take on more.

💻 The US organ transplant network is built on shaky technology
The nonprofit that runs the organ transplant network has out-of-date technology and has never been fully audited by the federal government, according to a report. The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) has two responsibilities: running the logistical system powering organ transplants and deciding how to prioritize organ distribution.
UNOS gets around $6.5 million each year from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), which oversees the transplant system. But HRSA does not have technical expertise or power to improve the systems.
There are no cybersecurity requirements for UNOS. Lawmakers are alarmed by security weaknesses in the systems, according to a letter from senators to the Department of Homeland Security. UNOS is the only group to ever hold the contract to run organ transplants in the United States.
