➡️ LIVE UPDATES ‼️ White House: US expects China to continue to react to Pelosi visit over longer term
The United States expects China to continue to react to the visit by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan over a longer period of time beyond the trip itself, National Security Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said on Tuesday.
"China has positioned itself to take further steps and we expect that they will continue to react over a longer-term horizon," Kirby told a briefing. "I couldn't give you a date of certain of what that horizon looks like but we certainly would expect them to react even beyond her trip."
Kirby further underscored that the US “does not seek and does not want a crisis,” while noting that US President Joe Biden “respects” Pelosi’s decision to visit Taiwan.

🚨 California governor declares monkeypox state of emergency
Gov. Gavin Newsom on Monday declared a state of emergency to speed efforts to combat the monkeypox outbreak, becoming the second state in three days to take the step. Newsom said the declaration would help California coordinate a government-wide response, seek more vaccines and lead outreach and education efforts on where people can get treatment and vaccination.
The type of monkeypox virus identified in this outbreak is rarely fatal, and people usually recover within weeks. But the lesions and blisters caused by the virus are painful, and they can prevent swallowing or bowel movements if in the throat or anus. Nearly 800 cases of monkeypox have been reported in California, according to state public health officials.

‼️China will do everything to reunite with Taiwan peacefully - Foreign Ministry
China will try to unite with Taiwan peacefully but the military solution remains an option for deterrence, Chinese Foreign Ministry Arms Control Department Director General Fu Cong told Sputnik.
"We will try our best to unite our country in a peaceful way. The reason why we do not give up the option of a military solution is because we need to deter those potential separatists and so that they will not go too fast," he said on Tuesday on the margins of the 10th Review Conference on the Treaty on Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) at the United Nations.
Fu added that Beijing believes "there may be more conflicts" in the near future on account of the "world situation" being "quite tense."

🚨JUST IN | US Congress passes veterans health bill for service members exposed to toxic burn pits
The US Senate cleared legislation late Tuesday that would expand lifesaving health benefits for service members who served in Iraq and Afghanistan and were exposed to burn pits.
The vote came down 86 to 11 after Republicans ultimately caved to pressure from dozens of veterans groups that rallied outside the federal grounds. The legislation, which had already cleared the US House of Representatives, now heads to the president’s desk.

🔥 Death count in Northern California wildfire zone rises to 4
Two more bodies were found within the burn zone of a huge Northern California wildfire, raising the death toll to four in the state’s largest blaze of the year, authorities said Tuesday.
Search teams discovered the additional bodies Monday at separate residences along State Route 96, the Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Two bodies were also found found Sunday inside a charred vehicle in the driveway of a home near the tiny unincorporated community of Klamath River.
Scientists have said climate change has made the West warmer and drier over the last three decades and will continue to make weather more extreme and wildfires more frequent and destructive.

☀️ At least 14 heat deaths in Oregon after hot spell
Oregon authorities are investigating four additional deaths potentially linked to last week’s scorching heat wave, bringing the total number of suspected hyperthermia deaths to 14. Temperatures neared the triple digits nearly all of last week in the Portland area, prompting officials to open emergency overnight shelters and cooling stations.
The National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for both the Portland and Seattle regions lasting through late Sunday evening. Temperatures started to cool off on Monday as colder air from the Pacific blows in.
About 800 people died in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia during that heat wave, which hit in late June and early July of 2021. Climate change is fueling longer heat waves in the Pacific Northwest, a region where weeklong heat spells were historically rare, according to climate experts.

➡️ LIVE UPDATES ‼️ New US Anti-Russian sanctions additionally shatter global markets - Ambassador Antonov New US sanctions against Russia are further shattering global markets already suffering from supply chain disruptions, Russian Ambassador to Washington…
"The 'sanctions machine' initiated by Washington continues to 'stamp out' restrictions against Russian business in an attempt to crowd Russia out from global markets. To take the vacant positions at the expense of banal blackmail, and not fair competition. Moreover, many sanctions are duplicated. Apparently, the bureaucracy can't come up with anything new anymore," Antonov said in response to a media question.
"Such 'diligence' of the American authorities further undermines global markets, which are already suffering from significant supply chain disruptions. Hence the risks of further price increases and problems with obtaining the necessary products. The most painful damage will be inflicted on developing countries," he said.
