A man was caught on camera pulling a shark out of the sea onto a Florida beach and stabbing it in the head, prompting a storm of outrage among netizens who lamented the apparent cruelty against the animal.

“The worst of humanity on full display folks. I feel I just witnessed someone killing an amazing creature for absolutely no reason,” one person said, commenting on the video.

But how do officials feel about the case? According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, it is “common practice for anglers to euthanize sharks after landing for ethical and safety concerns.”
