🤔 Meghan Markle has said her children were called ‘the N-word’

In an interview with The Cut magazine, the Duchess of Sussex said she wasn’t eager to share photos of her children with the British press because of racist language.

💬 "Why would I give the very people that are calling my children the N-word a photo of my children before I can share with the people that love my children?" she explained. "You tell me how that makes sense and then I’ll play that game."

Markle didn't specify whether she was referring to one or more people or whether she was referencing news organizations.

🇧🇷 The last member of a Brazilian tribe that never had contact with civilization has died

An indigenous man in Brazil who lived in the Amazon Rainforest in the state of Rondonia was found 26 years ago for the first time. His last appearance when alive was captured on camera in 2018. The man's body was found in a hammock in his hut.

His real name, the name of the tribe to which he belonged, and his language remain unknown. It is assumed that all of his tribesmen died in clashes with ranchers and lumberjacks in the 1980s and 1990s.

‼️Pentagon says Ukraine likely fired around Zaporozhye NPP in response to Russian fire ➡️ LIVE UPDATES

Ukrainian forces likely fired artillery shells around the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) in attempted counterstrikes on Russian positions, a senior US defense official said on Monday.

"We also know that the Russians have fired in the vicinity of the plant, and I don’t want to say that the Ukrainians haven’t fired in that vicinity either, because I think there’s probably a likelihood that they have, but in a number of cases, it’s returning fire of the Russians who are firing from those locations," the senior defense official said at a briefing when asked by Sputnik about Ukrainian attacks. "The Ukrainians are very aware of the potential impacts of striking the nuclear power plant, and they’re going out of their way not to do that, and they have had conversations with us about that too."

🛢 Low fuel inventories cause special concern in US Northeast

Diesel and heating oil supplies in the Northeast are more than 50% below the recent average, raising concerns that an extreme weather event could cause supply disruptions. Gasoline inventories are not as bad, but are still at their lowest levels in nearly a decade along the entire East Coast, federal officials said.

The Northeast is heavily dependent on heating oil to keep homes warm in the winter. Also, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has projected an active hurricane season, and could cause disruptions, since most fuel consumed comes from Gulf Coast refineries.

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm is convening a meeting of New England governors and their energy directors after Labor Day to discuss the situation. The Energy Department also sent letters to seven major oil companies, asking them to hold onto their stocks to help offset low stocks.

However, the official pointed out that an uptick of violence in the Kherson region has been noticed.

💰 Mickey Mantle card breaks record

A mint condition Mickey Mantle baseball card sold for $12.6 million Sunday, blasting into the record books as the most ever paid for sports memorabilia in a market that has grown exponentially more lucrative in recent years.

The rare Mantle card eclipsed the record just posted a few months ago — $9.3 million for the jersey worn by Diego Maradona when he scored the contentious “Hand of God” goal in soccer’s 1986 World Cup.

Before the pandemic, the sports memorabilia market was estimated at more than $5.4 billion, according to a 2018 Forbes. By 2021, that market had grown to $26 billion, according to the research firm Market Decipher, which predicts the market will grow astronomically to $227 billion within a decade.

🧊 ‘Zombie ice’ from Greenland will raise sea level

Zombie ice from the massive Greenland ice sheet will eventually raise global sea level by at least 10 inches (27 centimeters) on its own, according to a study released Monday. “It’s dead ice. It’s just going to melt and disappear from the ice sheet,” William Colgan, a glaciologist at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland, said in an interview. “This ice has been consigned to the ocean, regardless of what climate (emissions) scenario we take now.”

The unavoidable ten inches in the study is more than twice as much sea level rise as scientists had previously expected from the melting of Greenland’s ice sheet. The study in the journal Nature Climate Change said it could reach as much as 30 inches (78 centimeters) for likely sea level rise from Greenland ice melt by the year 2100.
