🚬For teenagers, vaping presents a “route into nicotine addiction, rather than out of it," an expert warns

The warning comes after a new study concluded that a significant number of teens who try vaping have never smoked before.

The proportion of 16 and 17-year-olds who had tried e-cigarettes increased from 23% to 39%, whereas 68% of those who had tried them said that they had never tried smoking before, while only 3% claimed that it was a way to quit smoking, data from the Tobacco Free Research Institute Ireland shows.

🗯️"This indicates that, for teens, vaping is a route into nicotine addiction, rather than out of it." Professor Luke Clancy, director general of the Institute said.

Billboards have emerged across London announcing that Larry the cat has thrown his collar into the ring to become the country's next leader.

The sign features the cat in a Union Jack tie alongside the slogan, "Larry for leader".

Seems like UK citizens have finally found their favorite candidate.

🗯"[I] would vote Larry for leader [out of] the three." "We need clarity on all of your 'paw'licies," some UK residents wrote on their social media accounts, supporting the cat’s candidature.

🔎The Pentagon has launched a project to rapidly increase the sale of US weaponry to foreign allies to compete with China. The Wall Street Journal has reported that the Pentagon had created a task force last month to address inefficiencies in arms sales to foreign countries.

This information comes after the State Department approved a $1.1 billion arms sale to Taiwan on Friday. The package includes 60 anti-ship missiles, 100 air-to-air missiles, and surveillance radar equipment. China has reportedly exported $17 billion in weaponry between 2010 and 2020, with about 77 percent going to Asian countries and 20 percent going to Africa.

💧Thunderstorms and heavy rain pounded parts of northwest Georgia on Sunday, sparking flash flooding in some areas. Local news reports showed roads under water and homeowners struggling to keep water out.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp declared a state of emergency Sunday afternoon in Chattooga and Floyd Counties, directing all state resources to help with “preparation, response and recovery activities.” The National Weather Service said rainfall of up to one inch per hour was causing creeks, streams, roadways, and urban areas to experience unusually high-water levels. Up to 12 inches of rain was estimated to have fallen in the area, according to Kemp’s executive order.

“This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order,” the service said.

📌Canadian police say that ten people have been killed and at least 15 others injured in two remote communities in Saskatchewan on Sunday. "We have located ten deceased individuals in 13 locations in the community of James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, Saskatchewan," Royal Canadian Mounted Police Assistant Commissioner Rhonda Blackmore told a news conference.

"Several additional victims have been injured, 15 of which at this point have been transported to various hospitals," she added.

The James Smith First Nation is an indigenous community north of Melfort, Saskatchewan. The community, with a population of 2,500, declared a local emergency, while many Saskatchewan residents were urged to seek shelter locally. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called a mass stabbing "horrific and heartbreaking." "I'm thinking of those who have lost a loved one and those who were injured," he tweeted.

🎙The former vice president said last month that he would give "due consideration" to any formal invitation to testify before the House select committee investigating the events of January 6, 2021, at the US Capitol.

Maryland Rep. Jamie Raskin, a Democrat on the House select committee investigating the Capitol riot, believes Mike Pence will testify before the January 6 panel.

Pence defied Donald Trump during the 2020 presidential election and confirmed then President-elect Joe Biden as the winner, which is said to have been a turning point in their relationship. Pence claimed that Trump was wrong to believe that a vice president had the power to overturn the election's outcome.

📢Chileans rejected a proposal for a new constitution to replace the one adopted during Augusto Pinochet's dictatorship. With 98.43% of the votes processed, the new, left-leaning constitution was supported only by 38.10%, while 61.90% of Chilean citizens voted against the draft text. The constitution was drafted after political and social unrest swept Chile in 2019.

Unlike previous elections, the vote is mandatory for more than 15 million eligible voters. The dwindling support for the new law could at least partly be blamed on the prominence given to Chile's Indigenous population, which makes up almost 13% of the country's 19 million people. It offers them greater autonomy, particularly on judicial issues.

There are also concerns that it will legalize abortion in a country where half of the population is Roman Catholic. In addition, it puts the environment on center stage in a country that is the world's top copper producer.
