📱A scandal has broken after it was revealed that journalists around the world may have been spied on by their governments using their smartphones.
According to an investigation published on 18 July by several media outlets, NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware can be installed remotely without the need to trick a user into downloading it. The software can also switch on a phone’s camera or microphone and steal data without the owner knowing.
Meanwhile, NSO Group has already dismissed the information reported by the media. "We firmly deny the false allegations made in their report," NSO said, adding that it sells "solely to law enforcement and intelligence agencies of vetted governments."
The US whistleblower Edward Snowden has called the revelations "the story of the year."

😷The American Academy of Pediatrics updated its guidance for the upcoming school year on Monday; now everyone above the age of two will be made to wear a mask inside schools "regardless of vaccination status." This decision comes as COVID-19 cases are rising across the US due to the Delta variant.
"We need to prioritise getting children back into schools alongside their friends and their teachers – and we all play a role in making sure it happens safely," Chair of the AAP Council on School Health Sonja O’Leary said. "Combining layers of protection that include vaccinations, masking and clean hands hygiene will make in-person learning safe and possible for everyone."

💻 Remember when Joe Biden asserted that Facebook is "killing people"? Well, now it looks like he changed his mind.
After delivering remarks on Monday about the US economy's pathway to recovery, Biden clarified to reporters that his administration does not believe Facebook and other social media platforms are single-handedly "killing people" with misinformation.
🗣 "Facebook isn't killing people. These 12 people are out there giving misinformation," he said, making reference to a May report from the Center for Countering Digital Hate. "Anyone listening to [the misinformation] is getting hurt by it. It's killing people. It's bad information."

The Russian Embassy in the US warned of the dangers of a potential deployment of US hypersonic missiles in Europe after the Pentagon criticized Russia for the Zircon hypersonic missile test.
🗣 “We would like to remind @PentagonPresSec that potential deployment of any US hypersonic missiles in Europe would be extremely destabilizing. Their short flight time would leave Russia little to no decision time and raise likelihood of inadvertent conflict,” the embassy said.
