According to an investigation published on 18 July by several media outlets, NSO Group’s Pegasus spyware can be installed remotely without the need to trick a user into downloading it. The software can also switch on a phone’s camera or microphone and steal data without the owner knowing.

Meanwhile, NSO Group has already dismissed the information reported by the media. "We firmly deny the false allegations made in their report," NSO said, adding that it sells "solely to law enforcement and intelligence agencies of vetted governments."
