‼️ Flags in UK to Be Raised to Full-Must for 26 Hours in Recognition of New King - London

National flags in the United Kingdom will be flown at full-mast over the weekend for 26 hours in recognition of UK King Charles III, Buckingham Palace said on Friday.

On Thursday evening, Buckingham Palace announced that Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled the Kingdom for more than 70 years, died at Balmoral castle in Scotland at the age of 96. Her eldest son, Charles III, will be officially proclaimed King at 09:00 GMT on Saturday, with his wife Camilla becoming Queen Consort.

"In recognition of the new Sovereign, flags will be flown at full-mast from the time of the Principal Proclamation at St James's Palace until one hour after the Proclamations in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales, after which flags will return to half-mast in mourning for the death of Her Majesty The Queen," Buckingham Palace said in a press release.

On Friday, the UK government issued a flag flying guidance following the passing of the Queen. According to the guidance, all official flags should be half-masted from Friday until 08.00 a.m. the day following The Queen’s State Funeral. The government also instructed that all non-official flags be taken down and replaced with a Union Flag at half-must.

🚀 NASA fixing moon rocket leak

NASA said Thursday they will conduct another test after the repairs to ensure all hydrogen fuel leaks are plugged. If that test goes well — and if the Space Force extends a flight safety waiver — then NASA could take another stab at launching the 322-foot rocket in late September. Otherwise, the rocket will return to the hangar for additional work, delaying liftoff until at least October.

The Space Launch System rocket — the most powerful ever built by NASA — holds a crew capsule with three test dummies. The space agency wants to send the capsule into lunar orbit on a trial run, before putting astronauts on the next flight, in 2024.

⚖️ Former Atlanta official Mitzi Bickers gets 14 years in prison

A pastor, political operative and former high-ranking Atlanta city official was sentenced Thursday to 14 years in prison after a jury found her guilty of charges stemming from a long-running federal investigation into corruption at City Hall.

US District Judge Steve Jones says that the evidence showed that she was involved in “a deliberate, calculated plan to cheat” the taxpayers of Atlanta over a number of years. In addition to the prison time, he ordered Bickers to pay nearly $3 million in restitution to the city.

Prosecutors said she used her influence to funnel roughly $17 million in business to city contractors Elvin “E.R.” Mitchell Jr. and Charles P. Richards Jr. in exchange for more than $2.9 million in bribes for herself and others.

🔋 EV startup Bollinger acquired by Mullen Automotive for $148.2 million

Mullen is a relatively unknown Southern California electric vehicle manufacturer with the stated goal to build “the next-generation of premium electric vehicles that are affordable and built entirely in the United States.”

The company said it will add Bollinger-designed medium-duty trucks and sport utility trucks to its inventory. The deal “positions Bollinger to capture the electric sport utility and commercial vehicle markets,” the company added.

While there has been a wave of acquisitions in recent years of autonomous vehicle startups, there has been less consolidation on the EV side. But experts predict this will soon change, with small EV startups seeking out larger companies for cash infusions into their struggling operations.

‼️ Charles III may become last King of United Kingdom - Russian Military Historical Society

UK King Charles III may become the last king of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth of Nations as the British society would begin to consider the "ceremonial" institution of monarchy as an expensive burden in the realms of global instability and economic crisis, Mikhail Myagkov, the scientific director of the Russian Military Historical Society, has told Sputnik.

"With Europe being in crisis, and Britain having made its life even more difficult with Brexit, the institution of the monarchy may become too burdensome, and Charles III may become the last Windsor on the British throne. If the economic situation deteriorates, including due to spikes in energy prices, the British might wonder: 'Why should we spend hundreds of millions of pounds on a family of aristocrats who play no useful role in running the country?'" Myagkov said.

Myagkov noted that discussions on the necessity of preserving the dynasty that ruled the country only formally were going on while Queen Elizabeth II was still alive. Nevertheless, he said, the Queen managed to become a symbol of the nation, adding that the very fact that she ruled the country for 70 years symbolized the stability of the UK.

Alexander Zakatov, a spokesman for the House of Romanov, expressed the opposite view to Sputnik, saying that Charles III would defend the institution of the monarchy and maintain its authority.

🌎 Thousands of people gather to vacation at Burning Man, an annual event in the Black Rock Desert in Nevada, where, in one week the festival generates more greenhouse gases than a small country, the website Cooling Man reported, having conducted a study.

Researchers estimate that in 2006, Burning Man produced about 27,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. This figure includes emissions from the trips of participants and employees to and from Black Rock City, as well as electricity generation on the Playa, art cars, fire art and, of course, the burning of the human effigy (the culmination of the week-long festival).

This year, about 80,000 people visited the festival, it means that about 49,000 tons of greenhouse gases were released into the atmosphere, which is more than Switzerland (population 8 million) generates in a week
