💃Cardi B has donated $100,000 to her old middle school in the Bronx as part of a series of visits organized by New York’s Community Capacity Development group, just days after voicing outrage over how rising inflation was making it increasingly difficult for working-class Americans to find and keep housing.

Last Friday, the rapper surprised students in the Bronx’s Morris Heights neighborhood and explained how proud she was of the area where she grew up.

“Cardi B’s commitment of $100K for the arts will help the school’s kids soar to their highest heights,” New York City Schools chancellor David Banks said after her visit.

Worldwide, new cases of COVID-19 decreased by nearly a third last week compared to the previous week—to 3.1 million cases, WHO officials said Wednesday. A decrease in cases was reported in all six WHO regions, including the Americas, Southeast Asia, Europe, and Africa.

Deaths also dropped—by 22% week over week, with just over 11,000 fatalities reported. COVID deaths reported last week were at the lowest level the world has seen since March 2020, mere months into the pandemic, Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

🚙President Joe Biden, a “car guy” with his own vintage Corvette, showcased his administration’s efforts to promote electric vehicles during a visit Wednesday to the Detroit auto show.

Biden traveled to the massive North American International Auto Show to plug the huge new climate, tax, and health care law that offers tax incentives for buying electric vehicles. He toured a mix of American-manufactured hybrid, electric, and combustion vehicles from Chevrolet, General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis on a closed-off convention center floor. He greeted union workers, CEOs, and local leaders.

“You all know I’m a car guy,” Biden told a roaring crowd of autoworkers, adding that cars “just give me a sense of optimism — although I like the speed too.”

🔻On Wednesday, Illinois Governor Jay Robert "J.B." Pritzker issued a disaster proclamation to enhance efforts to adequately respond to the hundreds of undocumented migrants arriving in Chicago from Texas.

"Governor J.B. Pritzker today issued an emergency disaster proclamation and activated approximately 75 members of the Illinois National Guard to ensure all state resources are available to support asylum seekers arriving nearly daily to Chicago from the State of Texas," the Office of the Governor said in a press release.

The release said more than 500 asylum-seeking migrants have arrived in Chicago since August 31, and buses carrying migrants are arriving nearly every day.

Last week, Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser declared a public emergency in the U.S. capital due to the arrival of thousands of undocumented migrants being bused to the area from Texas and Arizona.

▪️R&B singer R. Kelly was found guilty on Wednesday on multiple charges of child pornography and luring underage girls to have sex with him but not guilty of obstructing a 2008 state case that ended with his acquittal.

In his latest trial, Kelly - whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly was found guilty by a jury on six out of 13 counts, prosecutors said.

He was found guilty of three child pornography counts and three counts of enticing minors for sex but acquitted of seven other charges that included obstruction of justice and conspiracy to receive child pornography.

In Chicago, a conviction of just one count of child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years. The jury's verdict in U.S. District Court in Chicago came after jurors deliberated for 11 hours over two days.

✈️ Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has sent two planes full of migrants out of his state, keeping his promise that he would divert illegal immigrants to "progressive states". According Fox News Digital, the migrants from Florida could be seen disembarking at the airport on Martha’s Vineyard - an island just off the state of Massachusetts.
