‼️ Excluding Russia From Nord Stream Probe Will Not Bring Objective Results - Envoy to UN ➡️ LIVE UPDATES
Excluding Russia from the investigation into the attacks on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines will bring about doubts about its objectivity, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia said.
"If somebody thinks that they can investigate by excluding Russia from the investigation, I think that we [will] have reasons to doubt the objectivity of this investigation," Nebenzia said after a UN Security Council meeting on the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines.

💰 Biden Signs Government Funding Bill to Avoid Shutdown, Provide $12.4Bln for Ukraine
President Joe Biden signed a stopgap funding bill passed by Congress to avoid a US government shutdown slated to begin at midnight and provide $12.4 billion in new spending on areas related to the Ukraine conflict, the White House said in a notice.
Biden signed the legislation on Friday after the US House of Representatives passed the measure earlier in the day, the White House said.
The legislation maintains fiscal year 2022 funding levels through December 16 to avoid a government shutdown and give more time to pass a full-year appropriations bill.
The bill also commits $12.4 billion toward areas related to the conflict in Ukraine, including economic aid for Kiev and security assistance. The legislation authorizes $3.7 billion in military equipment from US stocks to be transferred to Ukraine as well.

📈 Inflation hits record 10% in 19 EU countries using euro
Consumer prices in the 19-country eurozone rose a record 10% in September from a year earlier, up from an annual 9.1% in August, EU statistics agency Eurostat reported Friday. Only a year ago, inflation was as low as 3.4%.
The European Central Bank is raising interest rates to combat inflation by keeping higher prices from being baked into people’s expectations for wages and prices, but can’t by itself lower energy prices. The rising gas prices that have resulted mean higher heating bills and higher electricity costs because natural gas is used to generate power, heat homes and run factories.
Central banks around the world are rapidly raising rates, led by the US Federal Reserve, which is aiming to bring down inflation that hit 8.3% in August. Eurozone inflation has eclipsed the United Kingdom’s 9.9% registered last month.

🚢 Sailor found not guilty in fire that destroyed USS Bonhomme Richard
A military judge on Friday acquitted a sailor of arson in a fire that destroyed the USS Bonhomme Richard, a blow to the Navy as it faces allegations of improper training and maintenance of the $1.2 billion amphibious assault ship.
Prosecutors presented no physical evidence during the nine-day trial that the sailor set the ship on fire, while the defense chipped away at the credibility of a key witness, Seaman Kenji Velasco, who changed his account over time.
Prosecutors said Mays was angry and vengeful about failing to become a Navy SEAL and being assigned to deck duty, prompting him to ignite cardboard boxes on July 12, 2020 in the lower vehicle storage area on the vessel, which was docked in San Diego while undergoing $250 million in maintenance work.

🗣 Brazil’s do-or-die debate on eve of presidential election
Brazil held its final presidential debate before Sunday’s elections with tens of millions watching, and what it lacked in substance it made up for in fireworks. Far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro needed a strong performance Thursday night to ensure a runoff against leftist former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the front-runner in the polls, and the two let loose.
Hours before the debate on the Globo network, a poll by Datafolha indicated a first-round victory was within reach for da Silva, which would require him to get more votes than all other candidates combined. Television analysts said that about 60 million people were watching at one point, as much as some top soccer matches.

🇯🇵 Japan to pay up to $320M for US company’s chip production
Japan is providing a major US chipmaker a subsidy of up to 46.6 billion yen ($322 million) to support its plan to produce advanced memory chips at a Hiroshima factory, the Japanese trade minister said Friday.
The announcement to subsidize Micron Technology comes on the heels of US Vice President Kamala Harris’ visit in Japan as the two countries step up cooperation on expanding manufacturing and supply chains for critical materials. Micron was among the companies that participated in the meeting with Harris, along with Tokyo Electron, Nikon, Hitachi High-Tech Group, Fujitsu Ltd.
The United States is working to solidify its technology cooperation with Japan, South Korea and Taiwan, while trying to increase its domestic semiconductor manufacturing, amid China’s own investment in computer chips.

🛫 US Navy’s newest carrier to deploy, train with NATO nations
Following years of delays and problems with its new technology, the US Navy’s most advanced aircraft carrier embarks on its first deployment next week and will train with other NATO countries at a time of increasing the conflict in Ukraine.
The USS Gerald R. Ford leaves the world’s largest Navy base in Norfolk, Virginia, Monday along with destroyers and other warships, the US Navy said in a statement. The carrier strike group will join ships in the Atlantic Ocean from countries that include France, Germany and Sweden for various exercises, including anti-submarine warfare.
The $13.3 billion warship — the nation’s most expensive — is the first of the Navy’s new Ford class of aircraft carriers. They use an electromagnetic system for launching planes, which replace steam catapults and are supposed to increase flying missions by a third.

😳 A new vegan restaurant in Brooklyn called “Slutty Vegan” has taken a provocative route in trying to lure customers into eating their plant-based offerings.
Among the restaurant's dishes are a banana pudding served in a paper cup bearing the name “Happy Ending”, or a burger called “the Ménage à Trois”. Some who have brought their children to the restaurant have been faced with the problem of answering some awkward questions.
🗣“I had to explain what 'slutty' means in seven-year-old language, and that was difficult, so I’m not really thrilled about that,” said Alice Dietz, 50, queuing to buy her vegan seven-year-old son, Teddy, a faux-cheeseburger kids' meal

Elon Musk praised Russian media such as Sputnik and Russia Today (RT), admitting that they have "some good points".
The 5 March message - which included links to Sputnik and RT - was one of hundreds to have been unearthed as part of the ongoing court process between him and Twitter.
💬 "The EU passed a law banning Russia Today and several other Russian news sources. We have been told to block their IP address," Musk wrote to Antonio Gracias, his adviser and former Tesla executive. "Actually," Musk added, according to the legal documents, "I find their news quite entertaining"

The United Nations is “ready and willing” to work with the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo to speed up the withdrawal of its peacekeeping force there. The year 2024 was the date originally mooted as the UN goal for the 14,000-strong mission to leave.
Armed groups “continue to pose a significant threat and to commit violence against civilians” in the country’s east, the UN envoy for the DRC, Bintou Keita, told the Security Council on 30 September. This further exacerbated the “crisis of confidence” in the UN mission - known by its French acronym, MONUSCO - Keita added.
Anti-UN protests have gripped the country since July amid complaints that the peacekeepers’ mission has failed to protect civilians against years of violence by armed groups
