🇮🇳📹A cable bridge collapsed in Gujarat’s Morbi district into the Machchhu river.

The accident occurred just five days after the bridge was restored and opened for the public. A number of people were left injured and some of them fell in the water when the bridge collapsed. Ambulances were rushed to the spot, and a rescue operation is underway.

No casualties have been reported so far, local media reports.

🇱🇧 Lebanon president leaves with no replacement

President Michel Aoun left Lebanon’s presidential palace Sunday, marking the end of his six-year term without a replacement, leaving the small nation in a political vacuum that is likely to worsen its historic economic meltdown.

Many fear that an extended power vacuum could further delay attempts to finalize a deal with the International Monetary Fund that would provide Lebanon with some $3 billion in assistance, widely seen as a key step to help the country climb out of a financial crisis that has left three quarters of the population in poverty.

Lebanon’s constitution allows the cabinet in regular circumstances to run the government, but is unclear whether that applies to a caretaker governmen. Under Lebanon’s power-sharing agreement, the president has to be a Maronite Christian, the parliament speaker a Shiite and the prime minister a Sunni Muslim.

🇧🇷 Bolsonaro Ahead of Lula With Over 51% in Brazil's Presidential Runoff

Incumbent Brazilian leader Jair Bolsonaro is coming ahead of Brazil's former President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in the second round of the presidential election, according to the latest figures from the Superior Electoral Court.

With 30% of the votes counted in the Sunday runoff, Bolsonaro has 51.05%, while Lula has 48.94%.

The vote will determine if the world’s fourth-largest democracy stays the same course of far-right politics or returns a leftist to the top job. More than 150 million Brazilians are eligible to vote, yet about 20% of the electorate abstained in the first round. 

Brazil held a general election on October 2. Lula received 48.4%, while Bolsonaro won 43.2% of the votes. Since none of the candidates managed to get over 50% in the first round, a runoff was scheduled for October 30.
