🇩🇪 German climate activists glue themselves to dinosaur display

Two environmental activists glued themselves to a dinosaur display at Berlin’s Natural History Museum on Sunday to protest what they said was the German government’s failure to properly address the threat of climate change.

The activists were part of the group Uprising of the Last Generation, which has staged numerous demonstrations in recent months, including blocking streets and throwing mashed potatoes at a Claude Monet painting.

The Natural History Museum said it filed a criminal complaint for trespassing and property damage. German officials have set a goal to become carbon neutral by 2045; no action has been taken on speed limits.

🇦🇪 Flashy Dubai will cash in on a World Cup a short flight away

The FIFA World Cup may be bringing as many as 1.2 million fans to Qatar, but the nearby flashy emirate of Dubai is also looking to cash in on the major sports tournament taking place just a short flight away.

In the lead-up to the tournament, concerns about hotel room space and high prices for the rooms available have trailed Qatar, which lacks hotel capacity for all teams, workers, volunteers and fans at the World Cup. So Doha has created camping and cabin sites, hiring cruise ships, and encouraging fans to stay in neighboring countries and fly in for games.

Qatar has estimated it will have 45,000 hotel rooms for the tournament. Meanwhile, Dubai has over 140,000 hotel rooms, putting it easily into the top 10 destinations worldwide as far as available hotel rooms go. Dubai low-cost carrier, FlyDubai, plans as many as 30 round-trip flights a day during the World Cup.

🇹🇷 Istanbul Center Asks Turkey, UN to Provide 10 Teams to Inspect Ships as Part of Grain Deal

The Istanbul-based Joint Coordination Center (JCC) has proposed that Turkish and UN delegations create several inspection teams to inspect vessels as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative.

On Saturday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Russia was suspending its participation in the grain deal following Ukraine's drone attack targeting vessels of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. The ministry said that preparations for the attack were carried out under the guidance of UK specialists.

"In order to continue fulfilling the Initiative, it was proposed that the Turkish and United Nations delegations provide tomorrow 10 inspection teams aiming to inspect 40 outbound vessels. This inspection plan has been accepted by the delegation of Ukraine. The Russian Federation delegation has been informed,"
the JCC said in a Sunday statement.

According to the release, there are 97 loaded vessels and 15 inbound vessels registered for JCC inspection around Istanbul. An additional 89 ships have applied to join the Initiative.

"The Secretariat, in close cooperation with the Turkish delegation at the JCC, continues to engage all representatives to offer options on next steps regarding the JCC operations in accordance with the goals and provisions stated in the Initiative," the JCC said.

Both the Canadian and French presidents also filed their own congratulations on the development.

🇧🇷 The celebrations in Brazil for the victory of Lula ➡️ MORE VIDEOS

After learning of the victory of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in the ballotage this Sunday, a crowd gathered on Paulista Avenue, in São Paulo, to celebrate the victory of the leader of the Workers' Party (PT) in the most closely contested election in the history of the country.

His victory marks the first time since Brazil’s 1985 return to democracy that the sitting president has failed to win reelection. It was the country’s closest election in over three decades. Just over 2 million votes separated the two candidates with 99.5% of the vote counted. The previous closest race, in 2014, was decided by a margin of 3.46 million votes.

💰 Verified Twitter users may soon have to pay a monthly fee to keep their badges

Twitter Blue, a $4.99 monthly subnoscription, launched last year as the platform's premium offering, giving users access to new features like customizable app icons, the ability to undo or bookmark tweets, and a "reader mode" to more easily view long threads of posts. A verification-tier subnoscription may cost as much as $19.99 per month.

Currently only available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, Twitter Blue's launch has struggled with niche appeal and limited features — but linking verification to the subnoscription fee could bolster its popularity. Should Twitter require payment for its verified status, it would be the first major American social media app to do so, as most platforms offer the feature for free.

❗️The US military is reportedly weighing the possibility of deploying six B-52 bombers capable of carrying nuclear weapons to the north part of Australia in a bid to create a long-term hub in the region amid the Biden administration's ongoing tensions with China.

▪️At present, the region already hosts various joint military exercises with US forces on a near-annual basis, a collaboration that was first undertaken during the Obama administration.

▪️Although US-China tensions have remained heated for quite some time, ties between the two nations reached a near-boiling point in early August when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) decided to pay a visit to Taiwan.
