Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbott won reelection over his Democratic challenger Beto O'Rourke, US media projected.

With 38% of votes in, Abbott won 51.6% of the votes while O'Rourke had 47.3% of the votes.

Republicans earlier filed a lawsuit claiming voters had been denied their chance to vote after tabulation machine issues were reported at 60 polling stations. The suit alleged voters had been encouraged to scrap their ballot by election officials.

😮 Britain’s Royal Military Police have launched a probe into at least three soldiers from the Army Air Corps (AAC) for posting racist memes, including one of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, in a WhatsApp group.

▪️ According to a UK news outlet, apart from the mocked-up photo of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding day, other doctored images showed the head of a black man on that of the Archbishop of Canterbury and a black man’s forearm bearing the denoscription “truck drivers’ suntan competition winner”.

▪️ The outlet cited an unnamed military source as saying that “the pictures and captions being shared in the [WhatsApp] group were moronic. They don’t realize how offensive this sort of material is to black troops.”

‼️US state of Maryland has voted in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana use

Effective July 1, 2023, Marylanders aged at least 21 will be allowed to possess up to 1.5 grams of the drug. The legal changes will also set the stage for expunging past convictions, as well as re-sentencing for imprisoned offenders.

Incumbent Muriel Bowser wins Washington, DC mayoral race third time in row

Bowser received about 76% of the votes and beat Libertarian party candidate Dennis Sobin, Republican party candidate Stacia Hall and independent Rodney Grant.

Bowser became the first person in more than 30 years to be elected mayor of Washington, DC three terms in a row.
