🧊Greenland ice getting darker, melting faster due to pigmented algae, researchers say

A thin layer of blooming pigmented algae that darkens the surface of Greenland’s glaciers and ice sheets, coloring them brown-grey, has been identified as one of the reasons the ice is melting faster.

The algae growing on the white snow cannot be distinguished with the naked eye and can only be seen through a researcher's microscope.

However, their colonies spread on ice and packed snow and to an untrained viewer resemble pollution. They absorb sunlight and, through photosynthesis, convert it into energy.

Musk Stops Firing, Starts Hiring

After the richest man in the world bought Twitter, he declared that major changes were ahead. It seems that he has finally managed to articulate a vision of what is informally called Twitter 2.0.

Musk has claimed that he is done firing Twitter staff and plans to start hiring, US media has reported. The comments reportedly came during an all-hands meeting with Twitter employees.

While he did not specify what type of professionals he is going to look for, he did hint that the company is going to look for software developers. The Twitter website does not list any open positions.

🤔European Commissioner for Energy Kadri Simson presented on Tuesday a Market Correction Mechanism to curb extreme gas price surges in the European Union.

▪️According to the European Commission's (EC) press release, the mechanism implies a price ceiling of 275 euros ($283) for gas futures on the Title Transfer Facility (TTF), which is a virtual trading hub for natural resources used as a price benchmark in the EU.

▪️The ceiling will be activated only if two criteria are met: first, the gas price exceeds 275 euros for two weeks and, second, the spread between the TTF price and global liquefied natural gas (LNG) price is 58 euros ($60) or more for more than 10 trading days.
