😡 Ukraine's SBU security forces raided a 1,000-year-old Orthodox Christian monastery in Kiev on Tuesday in what they described as efforts to neutralize supposed “subversive activities by Russian special services.”
▪️ The main target of the raids, the Kiev Monastery of the Caves, was built in 1051 and is classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. But it wasn’t the only church affected – Kiev regime forces also hit the monastery in Korets on Tuesday, alongside several other Ukrainian Orthodox Churches in the region.
▪️ Vladimir Legoida, a spokesman for the Russian Orthodox Church, denounced the raid by Kiev regime forces as an “act of intimidation.”
💬 "Like many other cases of persecution of believers in Ukraine since 2014, this act of intimidation of believers is almost certain to go unnoticed by those who call themselves the international human rights community," Legoida noted.

🇲🇱 The German armed forces, or Bundeswehr, which are a part of the UN peacekeeping mission MINUSMA in Mali, will withdraw from the African nation in 2024, said German Cabinet spokesman Steffen Hebestreit
🗣 “The government has decided today to propose to parliament to extend the mandate for the Bundeswehr mission in Mali for the last time for a year in May 2023 in order to end this mission in a structured manner after 10 years,” the spokesman stated.
▪️ This comes as earlier this month, the UK, which is also taking part in MINUSMA, announced it would withdraw its forces from Mali six month earlier than planned.
Sweden and Canada, among other nations, have also decided to leave the West African country.
▪️ The Western countries' decisions to withdraw their forces from Mali take place amid continuing protests demanding that MINUSMA leave the country, with some of protestors reportedly accusing MINUSMA of undermining Mali's sovereignty

🇪🇺 Brussels plans to soften the conditions of a price cap on Russian oil, US media reported, citing an internal EU document.
▪️ The EU proposed the introduction of a 45-days transition period before a price cap on Russian oil comes into full force. This “grace period” will be applied to oil loaded before December 5, which is the day the bloc is expected to ban Russian crude imports, and unloaded before January 19. The bloc also suggested a 90-day transition in the event of any potential changes to the level of the price cap.
▪️ The cap would also ban companies from providing shipping and other services like insurance, brokering, and the financial assistance necessary to transport Russian oil anywhere, unless it is sold below the agreed-upon threshold.

🇳🇦 Namibia removes a statue of a German colonial-era officer, who was ‘wrongly’ regarded as the founder of Windhoek
📄 The statue of Curt von François, a German officer in the then-German colony of South West Africa, was removed from Namibia’s capital City of Windhoek on Wednesday as a result of a petition led by a Namibian activist.
🗣 Hildegard Titus, the author of the petition, said Von François had “wrongly been called the founder of Windhoek”, adding that the German officer was a symbol of “colonial oppression.”
Von François, who served as a senior officer in Namibia in the period from 1889 to 1894, was celebrated as the founder the African country’s capital city.
The officer is believed to be responsible for the 1893 Hoornkrans Massacre, which resulted in the death of at least 80 Nama people, most of whom were women and children as he was the commanding officer of the operation.
