"The ASEAN countries, for the most part, perceive these efforts of 🇺🇸Washington negatively. In particular, Indonesia, Malaysia, and some other ASEAN countries made statements on the issue." - said Alexander Ivanov, 🇷🇺Russia's Ambassador to ASEAN in a @SputnikInt interview when commenting on the US and NATO increasing presence in Southeast Asia - "They see what these steps taken by Washington and its allies in the region are aimed at. They understand the consequences of NATO's advance to Asia and the threat it poses to peace and stability in the region." I also asked the ambassador about Indonesia's role as ASEAN chair next year and the balance of superpowers in Southeast Asia. Here is the full interview. Subscribe to @BolotskySputnik.

🇺🇳 🌍 The UN has called for the adoption of a mixture of military action and good governance in West African countries to tackle the rising waves of violent extremism and terrorism

🗣 "Given the complex and dynamic nature of threats posed by violent extremists, there is a need to ensure a consistent response that combines the military approach with long-term interventions aiming to address the governance deficits noted in affected communities," Giovanie Biha, acting special representative of the United Nations secretary-general for West Africa and the Sahel, said in a statement during the opening of the ministerial session of the Accra Initiative in the Ghanaian capital.

The UN official stated that such an approach requires coordination between various bodies at the national level and across borders

💬"Many people claim that this[late repercussions of Brexit] is the reasoning. I'm not one of those, I would say it has to do with the global recession that is there and also the fact that Britain is particularly hit by the energy crisis and by high energy prices because the British were pampered over the decades: they had their own oil and gas production and all seized Scottish oil and gas production. They were very pampered while others had to pay already more or had to look for the gas somewhere else. The British had an important domestic energy production. Now this is seemingly gone for good. So they fall down from a higher level than others." Dr.Karin Kneissl - Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Austria and Energy Analyst said.

💬"We are really facing here a historic enmity. It's very profound. It's very far reaching. And when I say far reaching, it goes far beyond the region. It goes far beyond the Kurdish settlement and they don't dispose of their own state. We know well, they it's the largest people without a state of its own, but it goes far beyond Kurdish regions in Iraq, in Iran, right into Syria. [...] It goes right into Sweden because Sweden disposes of a very important Kurdish diaspora and not just any kind of diaspora. It's not just people who emigrated for economic reasons or because they wanted to leave for Europe. When we speak of the Turkish diaspora in Austria and Germany, often we don't know who is Turkish, who is Kurdish, and they have been in fights over the last decades again and again, the authorities, the average citizens things." Dr.Karin Kneissl - Former Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
