Afghan President Ghani will step down in the coming hours as the government has agreed to a peaceful transition of power to the Taliban.

US diplomats were evacuated by helicopter from the nation's embassy in Kabul just hours before the Taliban reached the outskirts of the Afghan capital.

As Taliban insurgents entered Kabul, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani, who is said to have stepped down from his post, has been filmed boarding a plane before taking off.

Police officers have made a gruesome discovery in Ridgefield Park in New Jersey – human remains were found in a barrel left outside a home on Friday.

According to local residents, the container was left out on the curb, which is not unusual to those living on the quiet street, as trash pickups are on Fridays.

“Human remains were located in the container, and the circumstances of the death and the origin of the container are being investigated”, said Bergen County prosecutor Mark Musella.
