Expert: Seizure of Russian Funds Could Make EU No-Go Investment Area for Rest of World

The European Commission's plans to seize frozen Russian assets and use them to pay for the reconstruction of Ukraine will make the European Union a "no-go investment area" for other non-western countries that will be scared away by these measures, geopolitical expert Charles Gave told Sputnik.

"I believe that Europe would become a no-go investment area for the non-western world the day Europe seizes the assets of the Russian sovereign state... there is no legal base for seizing the assets of a foreign state," the expert said.

China Reportedly Making Progress on New Model Navy Frigate

New satellite images from a Pleiades satellite of Hudong Shipyard in Shanghai show that China has made progress on building an advanced frigate.

The images showed a complete hull of the ship, which is similar to the type 054A frigate, according to former US submariner Tom Shugart, who tweeted the pictures.

A "life-sized" marble statue of Hercules was recently unearthed in Italy amid ongoing repairs to the sewage system in Rome, authorities have revealed.
The statue dates back to the Imperial period of Rome, roughly between 27 BC and 476 AD.

Crews were excavating the area to repair a sewer pipe that had collapsed under a park in Rome, which was causing mudslides and fissures in the ground.

The Russian Export Center (REC, part of the VEB.RF) has held the first selection of companies to promote their goods in foreign pavilions this year, a statement from the organization has said.


"On 27 January, the Russian Export Center held its first meeting of the 2023 Expert Commission for selecting companies to participate in the program to promote agribusiness products abroad. The Commission considered 14 applications from 11 companies: three each to Turkey and Vietnam, and two each to the UAE, Egypt, China and Saudi Arabia," the center announced.

Astronomers Confirm Detection of Oldest Galaxy Ever Observed

A galaxy nearly 13.5 billion light-years away has been confirmed as the earliest galaxy found to date.

Using the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) astronomers were able to date the galaxy to just 367 million years before the big bang, confirming the discovery first made by the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). The previous record holder for oldest observed galaxy was GN-z11, thought to have formed roughly 400 million years after the big bang.

The galaxy, named GHZ2/GLASS-z12 was first spotted in July 2022, not long after the JWST was turned on. The results were published in a paper in November but scientists wanted to confirm the results using another instrument.

Italy and France have agreed to jointly provide Kiev with an advanced Samp/T air defense system with about 700 Aster-30 anti-aircraft missiles at a total cost of 800 million euros ($870 million), Italian newspaper reported Saturday.

The system can reportedly intercept and destroy the full spectrum of air threats, including missiles within a radius of 25 kilometers (15.5 miles), as well as aircraft within 100 kilometers, the report said, adding that the system can intercept ballistic missiles as well.

A radioactive capsule, which vanished in Western Australia, was missing for weeks before anyone noticed, officials have finally admitted.

The capsule, measuring 6x8mm, contains a small amount of radioactive Caesium-137, which can harm one's health, and was lost during transport from a mine site in Newman to the suburbs of Perth in early January. However, officials realized that it had been lost only 15 days later.
