💭 "Whatever you think of Turkey, whatever you think of Erdogan, they do seem to have a keen sense of putting number one first. I mean, I guess it's Trump's America first policy, except it's Turkey's first. And I don't begrudge any country for looking out for its own interests. And I think that in a way, Ankara is kind of in the catbird seat here because while being a member of NATO, they can veto things that they don't like. They don't need to be dependent on American weapons. They can buy them when they want to. And if we want to boycott them, okay. That's who's cutting off who's nose to spite their face. So I think the Turks are playing their card cards very carefully, maximizing their leverage. And I think a lot of noise and that's all it really is coming from the Senate and the House is just a lot of complaining. That really doesn't go much of anywhere." says Jim Jatras, former US diplomat and former senior foreign policy advisor.

Jim Jatras, former US diplomat and former senior foreign policy advisor commenting on how heavy Western weapons will affect the the Ukrainian conflict on our podcast Political Misfits.

💭 "I don't think they'll make that much difference, especially since, again, it's going to take time for them to get there and their effectiveness on the battlefield, at least according to the authorities I listen to, is not as impressive as it's cracked up to be. What it does do, however, it continues raising the provocation level the Russians to see what exactly their patience is ... Well, here we are directly contributing to the killing of Russian forces, and we expect them to just shrug their shoulders and take it. At some point, what happens when they decide not to take it?"
