Sputnik spoke to Elijah Magnier, a veteran war correspondent, about the ongoing tragedy in Turkey and Syria after the deadly earthquakes that shook the two nations a few days ago and how the economic sanctions of the West are hindering the recovery efforts.
💬 “Only few countries, six or seven countries like Russia, China, Iran, Iraq, Algeria, Tunisia and the Emirates who rush to help Syria. The problem is all the other countries feel afraid of the American sanctions because they were told that any flight that landed in Damascus means a violation of the U.S. and EU sanctions. Even if there are harsh sanctions against Syria, the aim is to hit the population and allow them to remain under the debris, showing how we are really not looking at support of the population.”

Elijah Magnier explains what other effects Western sanctions have on Syria
💬 “Today, there is a large number of the population is without electricity, including in Damascus and the suburb in Aleppo that has been seriously damaged. Syria is really suffering from these sanctions and these sanctions as rightly President Joe Biden said the sanctions against Russia are not going to change anything. The sanctions against Iran have not changed anything since 43 years in 1979, and the sanctions against Syria since 2019 will not change anything. But they all have one thing in common: people suffer from the sanctions and only the population.”

Coincidence or Just Trolling? Russia Develops Heavy Drone Called TrUMP
The drone, known as the ‘Transport Aviation Multifunctional Platform’, or its Russian-language acronym ‘TrUMP’, has a cruising speed of 195 km per hour, and a flight ceiling of 3,000 meters. It features a 2,650 liter cargo compartment, and can drop loads via parachute if necessary to the mission.
Sputnik’s source did not clarify whether the decision to name the drone the ‘TrUMP’ has anything to do with the former US president. However, Russian commentators online had a field day over the name.

❗️China is increasing its intelligence gathering activity in Europe, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg claims.
💬 "The Chinese balloon over the United States confirms a pattern of Chinese behavior," Stoltenberg said during a press conference in Washington. "We have also seen increased Chinese intelligence activities in Europe, again, different platforms. They use satellites, they use cyber, and as we’ve seen over the United States, also balloons."
The statement comes after a Chinese balloon transited the continental United States last week, culminating in the US shooting down the airship off its eastern coast. The US alleges the balloon was conducting surveillance, while China claims it was engaged in scientific research.
