The New York Times has shed light on the growing exploitation of migrant children in the US. Having entered the "land of free" without parents, the migrant minors typically end up staffing low-wage subsidiaries of Fortune 500 giants and do dangerous jobs that violate child labor laws, the newspaper has concluded.

US Needs to Have Military Communication With China to Avoid Escalation Says White House

The United States believes that it is important to maintain military communication channels with China to ensure stability, US national security adviser Jake Sullivan said.

"Well, we have said repeatedly that we need to have military communications channels to avoid escalation, to avoid surprise, to avoid mistake and it is unfortunate that the Chinese Defense Ministry has declined to take calls from the U.S. secretary of defense [Lloyd Austin]," Sullivan said during an interview on NBC News’ "Meet the Press" on Sunday.

UN Must 'Give Framework' for Nord Stream Blasts Probe, Hungarian FM Says

The United Nations should get involved in investigating the explosions at the Nord Stream gas pipelines, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in an interview with Sputnik.

"I think in such kind of issue, the United Nations definitely should have a role. Why? Because the United Nations has not been created as an integration for like-minded countries. The United Nations has been created to serve as a platform for countries to talk to each other, who even consider each other as enemies. …I think the UN should give framework for such kind of an investigation. I think UN could be a good platform for such an investigation," Szijjarto said.

A wooden sailing boat, believed to be carrying more than 100 migrants, broke apart off the southern Italian coast, killing at least 59 people, including 12 children, local authorities have said.

Arms smugglers in Sweden's second-largest city, Gothenburg, have received requests to procure weapons from warring Ukraine for further sale to criminals groups in the Nordic country, Swedish media have reported.

Experts have expressed fears that Ukraine may become a source of more powerful weapons than criminals in Sweden have had access to so far, and that virtually any type of weapon sent as Western aid could come back.

PKK Receives 'Significant' Financial Support in Sweden, Stockholm Admits

The militant Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), which has been designated as a terrorist organization by Turkiye, the US, the EU and other countries, is being financed in Sweden, the country's Security Police (SAPO) has said.

Susanna Trehorning, SAPO's deputy head of counter-terrorism, told national media that the PKK receives "significant" financial support in Sweden, without specifying the amount.

The Security Police doesn't assess the PKK to pose a direct threat of attacking Sweden. "However, we see that they conduct supporting activities such as solicitation, recruitment and financing to back terrorist activities in another country or Sweden," Susanna Trehorning told Swedish media.

Russian Navy to receive four new warships in first half of 2023

According to the CEO of United Shipbuilding Corporation, Alexei Rakhmanov, the Russian Navy will receive four new warships by July 2023.

These ships were originally intended for delivery in 2022 but have been delayed. The vessels include the Kronstadt submarine, Admiral Golovko frigate, and the Mercury and Rezky corvettes. The Admiral Golovko frigate will undergo state tests in February and will then be handed over to the navy.

The "Neustrashimy" frigate will also return from repair, and the Leopard nuclear submarine will rejoin the fleet. Overall, the USC plans to deliver at least 11 vessels to the navy this year, including five submarines (three nuclear and two diesel) and ships for both near and far maritime zones.
