🇫🇷 A small group called Utopia 56 rallied at the Place du Trocadero in Paris against the backdrop of the Sunak-Macron meeting.
💬 “Against the criminal and absurd laws that govern our borders! For a dignified welcome and safe passageways,” the group proclaimed in a tweet.
▪️This comes after Britain's home secretary unveiled new legislation to deport illegal immigrants trafficked across the English Channel with no right of appeal.
▪️During their meeting in Paris, Rishi Sunak and Emmanuel Macron agreed to boost cooperation to tackle the so-called "small boats" problem, with the British PM announcing funding for a detention center in France.

Michael McFaul 'Nervous' About Ukraine's Ability to 'Hold on, Keep US Engaged' Against Russia
“We want Putin to lose and we want Xi Jinping to learn the lessons of that. We don’t want Xi Jinping to help Putin win. Because I think it sends a signal to the world that we put all this money in, we backed him, and our guy still loses, right, President Zelensky? That’s a bad signal not just to Beijing but to 4-5 dozen countries around the world that are kind of sitting on the sidelines – the Indians, the South Africans, the Israelis, who are just saying ‘we don’t wanna take sides in this war’. We want them to take sides and therefore we need to help Ukraine win. And by the way, the American people like winners too,” former US ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said.

Moscow: US Can No Longer Turn a Blind Eye to Kiev's Persecution Against Ukrainian Orthodox Church
💬 "Does the State Department know it? Usually, the corresponding department of the US diplomatic service reacts vividly to the facts of religious oppression. This time, the United States will not be able to 'not see' the persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church," Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
Earlier in the day, the authorities of the Kiev Pechersk Lavra obligated the monks of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) to leave the premises of the reserve by March 29.

Why Bloated US Military Spending Can't Ensure Its Dominance Over Russia, China
According to some estimates, more than half of the new DoD budget will go to major defense contractors, including Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, General Dynamics, and Northrop Grumman, on buying, researching, and developing weapons. However, the observers refer to an embarrassing record of overspending and alleged mismanagement of funds when it comes to the US military-industrial complex.

Xi's Third Term Ushers in an Era of Closer Relations With Russia, Smart Competition With US
Chinese President Xi Jinping was unanimously reelected for a historic third presidential term on March 10 due to the Chinese legislature's move abolishing presidential term limits in 2018. Xi was first elected to the top job in March 2013, and reelected for a second five-year term in 2018.
Since he took the reins of power in 2013, the PRC has made great strides, doubling GDP from $8.53 trillion to $17.73 trillion. However, as China has grown stronger, the US has increasingly been seeing it as a rival and a challenge – a view that has manifested itself in the US' latest military doctrine.

Uno Reverse? House Panel Launches Investigation Into Defunct January 6 Committee
Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-Ga.), chairman of the House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight, is leading the probe that is said to be still in the early stages. “We’ve got to get through the documents. We need to do some interviews with people. But at some point, we will have some hearings,” Loudermilk was quoted as saying, adding: “We need to give a serious, in-depth investigation into what happened that day, which the J6 committee didn’t do. We need to know, where were the security failures … as well as what do we need to do to fix it?”

Tulsi Gabbard Explains Why US Threw Ukraine Under the Bus by Blaming Kiev for Nord Stream Blasts
The former congresswoman and Iraq War veteran dismissed US and German media reporting on the "Ukrainian trace," saying it “implies that the United States and NATO’s military intelligence agencies are so inept and incapable that nobody knows what was going on,” and that “nobody saw this coming.”
“The reality is that [Washington is] responsible for this and there are short term and long term, serious implications for this action. It sets this precedent for countries like Russia, North Korea, Iran and China to go ahead and launch attacks and sabotage against critical infrastructure against other countries, like gas pipelines, undersea cables, financial systems, satellites, the list goes on and on. Just imagine the kind of problems to say the least that that would cause for us, the American people, and for the world,” Gabbard said.

🇰🇵 Kim Jong-un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), observed a crack rocket artillery unit in its fire assault drills on Thursday.
Photos published in North Korean media showed six road-capable transporter-erector-launchers (TELs) firing short-range ballistic missiles. They are likely the same ones detected by South Korean military intelligence on Thursday, flying over the Yellow Sea from a launch site near Nampo.

🇪🇸 Spain's imports of Russian gas jumped 151% in February 2023 year-on-year to 5,465 gigawatt hours, accounting for 17.2% of the country's total gas imports, data from Spanish energy company Enagas showed on Friday.
Russia was surpassed only by Spain's two traditionally large gas exporters — Algeria with 7,481 GWh (23.5% of the total) and the United States with 7,263 GWh (22.8%). Overall, Spain imported 31,862 GWh of natural gas in February 2023, the company said.
Spain has been actively promoting itself as a gas hub able to resolve the European energy crisis caused by reduction in Russian gas supplies, given that the country is currently one of the EU member states with the most diversified list of natural suppliers, with over 20 exporters.
The European Union has faced a massive energy crisis as part of the post-pandemic global economic recession. The situation further exacerbated against the backdrop of the Ukraine crisis, since the hostilities and Western sanctions against Moscow have led to disruptions of supply chains and resulted in a spike in energy prices worldwide.
