BBC to 'Review' Political Impartiality Rules After Backdown Over Lineker Tweets

The BBC announced on Monday that Lineker would return to hosting its Saturday afternoon football show Match of the Day, after regular pundits Ian Wright and Alan Shearer boycotted the broadcast in support of the host.

Biden Unveils Joint Nuclear Sub Program for AUKUS Following Sale of Virginia-Class Boats

In remarks at the 32nd Street Naval Station in San Diego, California, US President Joe Biden laid out the process by which Washington will deliver at least three nuclear-powered attack submarines to Australia in the coming years under the aegis of the Australia-UK-US (AUKUS) pact.

Appearing with Rishi Sunak and Anthony Albanese, the prime ministers of the United Kingdom and Australia, respectively, Biden referred to their countries on Monday as “two of America’s most stalwart and capable allies” that “share a common vision.”

SVB and Signature Bank Collapses May Herald Recession in United States

The US banking system suffered a serious blow last week with the collapse of the Silicon Valley Bank (SVB), which became the largest bank failure in the United States since the financial crisis of 2008.

Having seized the SVB on March 10, US regulators proceeded to close the New York-based Signature Bank two days later, raising concerns about what these bank failures might entail for the United States’ banking system as a whole.

Sergio Rossi, professor of macroeconomics and monetary economics at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, told Sputnik that the ensuing situation actually has certain similarities with the 2008 financial crisis.

The US Defense Department’s fiscal year (FY) 2024 budget request includes $170 billion for procurement, marking the largest such investment in its history, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said on Monday.

"The FY 2024 president's budget allows the Defense Department to invest in capabilities that will ensure we maintain a ready, lethal and combat-credible joint force with a laser focus on China as the department's pacing challenge and addressing the acute threat posed by Russia," Austin said in a statement. "This budget also funds $170 billion for procurement, the largest in history."

🇰🇵 North Korea's short-range ballistic missiles flew 620 kilometers (385 miles) and fell in the Sea of Japan, a South Korean news agency reported citing the country's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

▪️ Earlier Tuesday, the news agency reported that North Korea fired two short-range ballistic missiles toward the Sea of Japan.

💬 "We strongly condemn the North's series of ballistic missile launches as an act of significant provocation that harms peace and stability not only on the Korean Peninsula, but also in the international community, and a clear violation of U.N. Security Council resolutions," the South Korean JCS said in a text message sent to reporters.

▪️ The ballistic missile launch was North Korea's fifth this year.
