#USInvasionofIraq20🇮🇶 Minakov says the US military displayed utter disregard for human life, describing an attack on a hotel containing foreign media workers on April 8, 2003

💬 “They knew very well that many foreign journalists - European, American, Russian - lived in the Palestine Hotel. And when on April 8 an American Abrams tank opened direct fire from a bridge on the Palestine Hotel, three people were killed: two Spanish journalists and a Reuter’s camera operator - a good friend of mine, a Ukrainian named Taras Protsyuk, with whom we used to work in Chechnya. Several people were wounded, a Japanese man lost his leg.”

Democrats Defend Vote For Deregulation Law Blamed For SVB Collapse

The 2018 bill raised the asset threshold for the regulations from $50 billion to $250 billion, freeing some banks from stricter Federal Reserve oversight and stress tests mandated under the Dodd-Frank Act.

Forty-nine Democrats plus one Independent joined Republicans to pass the bill. While Democrats are now blaming that rollback for the banks' failures, proponents of the legislation argue that the regulations were impossible for small, medium-sized, and regional banks to comply with.

🇺🇸 A peace demonstration took place in Washington DC on Saturday as people protested against the US military's aggressive actions against all sorts of countries and the support it is giving Ukraine, a Sputnik correspondent reported.

People gathered in the city center, carrying coffins wrapped in the flags of the countries to which the US has sent its troops in the past 20 years. Protesters were also holding banners that read: "Feed the People, Not the Pentagon", "Fund People's Needs, Not the War Machine" and "Disband NATO".

Among other things, those taking part demanded that the US stop sending money and weapons to fuel the Ukraine conflict, end "militarism and sanctions", including the ones imposed against Syria, and avoid escalation in relations with China.

The organizers stated that the protest aimed to warn people of the threat of a "global war", while also raising public awareness of "the human and financial toll of US militarism at home and abroad." The protest coincided with the 20th anniversary of the US invasion of Iraq, the organizers added.

NATO Reportedly Mulling 300,000-Strong Force on Russia's Borders Amid Fast-Dwindling War Chests

For its plans on the eastern flanks to materialize, NATO will face the daunting task of convincing individual countries on the European continent to contribute everything from extensive amounts of costly weapons, equipment and ammunition, to soldiers, and training efforts.

But considering how low many war chests of NATO members have been running on munitions alone, there is reportedly a risk that not all allies will be up to the task. The need to contribute ever more weapons stockpiles and troops to NATO’s new plans may come at too great a cost for many countries already worried about their own defense stockpiles.
