Yakutia-Hosted Climate Summit Focuses on Permafrost Thawing

Around 500 experts, including leading specialists from scientific and educational institutions in Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China, Brazil, the US, and Japan, gathered in Yakutsk on March 22-24 for the Research and Training Conference on Climate Change and Permafrost Thawing. The conference, which was held as part of Russia's Arctic Council chairmanship in 2021 - 2023, covered a broad range of topics, such as climate change and those related to the sustainability of natural and technical systems in the cryosphere.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to support the establishment and maintenance of links between the domestic scientific community and foreign partners. 🇮🇷🇶🇦The Secretary of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, held talks with the Qatari Assistant Foreign Minister for Regional Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, to discuss economic cooperation between Tehran and Doha as well as global and regional issues, Iranian media reported.

During the talks, Shamkhani highlighted the importance of boosting trade and economic ties between the countries and developing joint infrastructure projects, the report said.

The Iranian official also said that a number of Western countries aimed at creating a rift between Iran and Qatar, which made it important for the two states to stay alert when developing bilateral relations to avoid serious issues.

The Qatari diplomat, in turn, welcomed the China-brokered deal between Iran and Saudi Arabia, saying that the move would be an important step contributing to stability and security in the Middle East.

Guterres to fulfill request of UNSC amid vote on Russia's draft resolution on Nord Stream blast

The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will always fulfill requests of the Security Council, the UN Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said on Monday ahead of the vote on Russia's draft resolution asking Guterres to investigate the Nord Stream blast.

"If there is a resolution and the Security Council asking the Secretary-General to do something, the Secretary-General does that thing," Dujarric told a briefing.The draft, which calls for the establishment of a UN-led commission, as well as for the UN member states, including those conducting their relevant national investigations to cooperate with the Commission, will be voted on Monday afternoon.

🇰🇵 North Korea tested a nuclear-capable underwater weapon system again on March 25-27

The Haeil-1 underwater nuclear attack drone, deployed in Wonsan Bay, reached the target point on March 27 after cruising along a jagged and oval course simulating the distance of 600 kilometers in the East Sea of Korea for 41 hours and 27 minutes, state media reports. The drone successfully set off the test warhead underwater, the report said.

The reliability of the weapon system was verified, and all tactical and technical specifications were correctly estimated during the test.
