$15 Million Worth of Gold and Valuables Stolen in Heist from Toronto’s Pearson Airport

If you’ve ever lost luggage at the airport, you may be thankful it wasn’t worth $15 million in gold.

An air cargo container carrying at least $20 million Canadian dollars ($14.8 US million), was stolen from Toronto’s Pearson Airport. Police are not revealing who owned the stolen goods, nor gave details on what the stolen goods are, exactly.

"What I can say is that the container contained a high value shipment," said Peel Regional Police Inspector Stephen Duivesteyn. "It did contain gold, but was not exclusive to gold, and contained other items of monetary value."

The container was described as five or six square feet in size and had arrived and was unloaded at a holding facility early on Monday evening “as per normal procedure,” before it was removed by “illegal means” from the holding facility.

Emergency Declared in Kamchatka Villages Affected by Ashfall After Shiveluch Eruption

A state of emergency has been declared on the territory of the Ust-Kamchatsky district on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, where several villages were affected by falling ash during the Shiveluch volcano eruption, the district’s head, Oleg Bondarenko, said.

The Shiveluch volcano erupted in the early hours of April 11, spewing ash 20 kilometers (12 miles) into the air. The ash cloud covered several villages in the eastern part of the Kamchatka peninsula. Residents of the affected areas were advised not to go outside unnecessarily. The Russian Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that the ashfall in the village of Klyuchi was the heaviest in the last 60 years. In some areas, the layer of ash was 20 centimeters (7.8 inches) thick, local authorities said.

Japanese Forces to Increase Readiness Over N. Korea's Possible Satellite Launch

Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada has instructed the country's Self-Defense Forces to be at enhanced readiness over a possible launch of a rocket carrying North Korea's first military reconnaissance satellite over the Japanese territory, a Japanese news agency reported on Saturday, citing government sources.

Japan's forces are expected to deploy the Patriot Advanced Capability-3 system and destroyer warships equipped with Aegis and Standard Missile-3 systems to intercept North Korea's rocket if necessary.

Earlier in the week, the state North Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said that the country's leader Kim Jong-un had ordered the country's first military reconnaissance satellite, which had been already completed, to be launched on a carrier rocket at the planned date. KCNA provided no details regarding the exact date of the launch.

Lack of Arms? Start of Ukraine’s Counteroffensive Reportedly Postponed ‘Indefinitely’

Ukraine planned to launch a counteroffensive against Russia, but the lack of weapons delayed it indefinitely. The US military provided fewer weapons than requested, including F-16 fighter jets that are still being debated.

Leaked Pentagon documents show that US military planners believe Ukraine needs 253 tanks, but only 200 have been committed, and only 60 are from Western manufacturers.

The commencement date for Ukraine's counteroffensive reportedly is April 30, but Russian officials suggest that some leaked documents could be part of a "deception" campaign.

'Growing Frustration' At FBI Over Failure to Charge Hunter Biden – Report

US media reports that the FBI is growing frustrated as Hunter Biden, son of US President Joe Biden, has not been charged in multiple felonies and misdemeanor investigations, despite agents concluding most of their research over a year ago.

The possible charges against Hunter Biden are two misdemeanor counts for failure to file taxes, a single felony count of tax evasion related to a business expense, and a potential felony gun charge.

An anonymous IRS employee, who has been overseeing the investigation since early 2020, is seeking to testify before Congress as a protected whistleblower. It is unclear whether Hunter Biden will also face charges of money laundering and failing to register under the Foreign Agents Registration Act.

Pistorius' Remarks on Ukrainian Attacks on Russia Should Be 'Memorized' - Russian MFA Spokeswoman

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has responded to German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, who recently claimed that Ukraine's attacks on Russia are justified as long as they do not target civilians.

Earlier this week, Pistorius told the German broadcaster that it is "normal" that Ukraine launches limited attacks on the Russian territory as long as no cities and no civilians are targeted.

"Has everyone memorized that? 'Limited strikes are an acceptable tactic.' Boris [Pistorius], you don't forget your statement, either. In any case, I will remind you," Zakharova said on her Telegram channel.

The spokeswoman also wondered if the German Defense Ministry established the perpetrators of the sabotage of Nord Stream pipelines and if the destruction of Germany's critical infrastructure project was also some "acceptable tactic of limited strikes."

Germany Reportedly Plans to Open LNG Terminal Linked to Nord Stream Pipeline Network

Germany plans to open a terminal for liquefied natural gas in the Baltic Sea by 2024 that is linked to the infrastructure from the damaged Nord Stream pipeline network, an American business media reported, citing sources.

The plan to open the terminal was discussed at a closed-door meeting with the participation of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Economy Minister Robert Habeck on Thursday, the report said, citing representatives of four organizations who took part in the meeting as well.

A pipeline connecting the LNG terminal with the main land will feed into the existing pipeline infrastructure in the German city of Lubmin from spring 2024, Habeck said during the meeting.
