🇩🇪♻️ German Green Party lawmaker finds out Bismarck was chancellor after 2 years in office
Emilia Fester has been serving in the Bundestag since 2021 as a member of the Greens, who are focused on climate change and social justice issues, and earned the noscript of “Baby of the House” for her status as youngest member of the parliament.
After the German parliamentary elections in 2021, Emilia said “young people bring pressure to parliament and that scares some of the older delegates because we want to shake up this dusty place.” The new wave of parliamentarians was considered the “wokest” in the history, and included “two openly trans women, an openly bisexual woman and a black woman.”

Kremlin on grain deal: position of Western countries complicates process
"This is one of the indicators that, despite all the efforts of the UN, Guterres, he is faced with, let's say, the unconstructive position of some Western [states]. It really complicates this process. It complicates, perhaps, the implementation of the Russian part of the Black Sea initiative, the Black Sea deal. But, nevertheless, contacts, as we said, continue, will continue because, yes, the deal has been extended for 2 months, but 2 months is a fairly short period, it will end fairly quickly," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
In an interview with a Russian newspaper released earlier in the day, spokesman for EU foreign affairs Peter Stano said that the bloc may restore access to the SWIFT payment system for Russian banks, including Russian Agricultural Bank, only after the conflict in Ukraine ends.

Bundeswehr wiping away tons of 'unfitting' toilet paper
Twelve pallets, around 3.3 tons in transportation weight. These are the goods that the Bundeswehr has offered for sale via the Federal Sales and Marketing agency Vebeg.
In the case of this specific batch of toilet paper, the unwinding device is different from the one on the standard roll. Therefore, it does not fit on universal toilet roll dispensers. Which brings us back to the procurement problem – obviously somewhere had botched the job.
"At the end of 2020, it was decided to replace the toilet paper dispensers of one company with the universal dispensers from another supplier. However, it transpired that the toilet paper from the first company cannot be used in a universal hygiene dispenser," a spokesman for the Federal Office of Bundeswehr Infrastructure, Environmental Protection and Services told local media.
Interested parties can pick up the toilet paper at the Schill barracks in Wesel. The auction runs until May 31.

Mystery disappearance of 30-ton shipment of explosive chemicals in California probed
About 27000 kg of the chemical ammonium nitrate, which can be used both as a fertilizer and in explosives, was manufactured by Dyno Nobel. The shipment was loaded into a Union Pacific rail car, with the train leaving Wyoming on April 12. The seals "were still intact" when it arrived two weeks later in California. Accordingly, a report was filed on May 10 at the National Response Center for railroad incidents.
“The initial assessment is that a leak through the bottom gate on the rail car may have developed in transit,” a Dyno Nobel statement said.
An investigation is ongoing. It should be noted that the train involved - Union Pacific - is from the same company that saw a dozen or more freight cars laden with coal go off the rails in a derailment in Nebraska in February. That incident was at least the third major train derailment in the US in a matter of weeks.

Why is Bakhmut called Artemovsk and what's its true story?
For months, the Artemovsk (Bakhmut) "meat grinder" has been the center of the world's attention.
On May 20, 2023, at noon, the city was fully liberated by Russian forces.
The city is located on the Bakhmut-Turetskaya Upland of the Donetsk ridge on the Bakhmutka River, 89 kilometers northeast of Donetsk. Bakhmut is an ancient Russian city. The first official mention of Bakhmut goes back to 1571, when the Russian czar, Ivan the Terrible, ordered the creation of border fortifications along the Aidar and Seversky Donets rivers, to protect the southern border of the Russian state from Crimean-Nogai slave raids.

Why does Ukraine want F-16s?
Last week, the Biden administration took another step up the escalation ladder in the NATO-Russia proxy war in Ukraine, announcing plans to train Ukrainian pilots to fly F-16 fighter jets at undisclosed locations in Europe.
Moscow slammed the move, and warned that it will take these steps "into account" in its military strategy.
What’s so special about the F-16 and what makes it famous?

Swing state voters would rather not see Biden & Trump in 2024 election
Many among the focus group members offered dire assessments of Biden's cognitive and physical abilities, with some pointing out to his advanced age and others noting his possible dementia, American media reported.
Nevertheless, the focus groups found that some of the participants at least opted to reject both candidates, according to the report.
Nine out of fifteen respondents said they would rather vote for Biden, whereas three said they would cast their ballots in favor of Trump; the remaining respondents said they would either abstain from voting or find a third-party candidate, the report said.
The focus groups appear to demonstrate that although voters have apparent concerns over Biden’s health and age on his ability to lead the nation, they would prefer having him as president than giving Trump the opportunity to lead the country again, the report added.

Ukrainian filmmaker predicts West will ditch Zelensky & try to freeze conflict
Western leaders, due to the escalating threat of a global war, could opt to dump Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, film director Igor Lopatonok wrote on Twitter.
The director pointed to a number of factors, such as the much-touted "Big Bad Counteroffensive" not happening, Russia taking control of Artemovsk (Bakhmut), and Ukraine's losses on the battlefield.
Referencing Zelensky’s recent surprise in-person descent upon the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, to beg for more military support, such as American F16 fighter jets, long range rockets and other deadly weapons of attack.
"So, I'm predicting that they will ditch Zelenskiy and attempt to freeze the conflict in Ukraine," Lopatonok maintained.

Assad won't meet Erdogan until Turkish troops exit Syria
"President Assad’s meeting with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan is contingent on the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syrian territory," Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad said in an interview with Russian media on Sunday.
"Normalization can only be achieved after the withdrawal of Turkish forces from Syria, and we highly appreciate the effort made by [our] Russian friends," Mekdad said.
Russia and Iran, which enjoy friendly relations with both Syria and Turkey, have worked extensively in recent months to put the decade long this crisis.
Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with his Syrian, Iranian, and Turkish counterparts in Moscow to discuss Syria-Turkiye rapprochement, outlining a diplomatic roadmap for normalization.

Israeli arms exports set to break 2021 record of $11.4 bln
"The State of Israel reached an all-time record in 2021 defense exports amounting to $11.4 billion – doubling in less than a decade. We are currently gathering the data for 2022, and I can already say that last year's record is likely to be surpassed," Director General of the Israeli Defense Ministry Eyal Zamir told a conference at Israel's Reichman University.
Europe accounted for 41% of Israeli arms exports in 2021, followed by Asian and Pacific nations with 34%, and North America with 12%. Meanwhile, Arab countries that are signatories to the Abraham Accords — a series of joint agreements designed to normalize relations with Israel — accounted for 7% of the country's arms exports, followed by Africa and Latin America with 3% apiece.
Israel will continue developing conventional weapons, while focusing on research in artificial intelligence to become a global AI power, Zamir said.

Three key goals Russia achieved by liberating Artemovsk
The northeastern Donetsk People’s Republic city of Artemovsk (also called Bakhmut) has been reduced to rubble, with entire districts leveled, and most of its 70,000 residents fleeing. Ukrainian forces left Artemovsk after 224 days of brutal house-to-house fighting.
The Russian military confirmed Sunday that operations by assault detachments supported by artillery and aviation of the Southern Group of Forces had led to the total liberation of the DPR city of Artemovsk. Alexei Leonkov, one of Russia’s top military observers, told Sputnik what this means tactically, strategically and politically.

🇭🇺🇶🇦 Hungary signs gas purchase agreement with Qatar
💬 “Over the past year, we have learned that Qatar is a country of key importance for Europe. The European economy has made up for a significant part of the missing Russian gas with LNG coming from here... We agreed on energy cooperation, we will also buy gas from here - it is always better to stand on several legs than on one," Hungarian PM Viktor Orban said after talks with Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The Hungarian PM also said that after talks, the leaders of Hungary and Qatar also agreed to develop infrastructure and air traffic, cooperate in communications and agriculture, thus opening up a good prospect for Qatari-Hungarian economic cooperation.
Orban added that Qatar, like Hungary, is ready to mediate in a peaceful settlement in Ukraine.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 US manipulates data published under New START treaty, Russian Foreign Ministry says
The information shared by the US State Department does not comply with the treaty's rules for counting, Russian Deputy FM Sergey Ryabkov said.
💬 "As for the attempts of Western countries to earn political points on information about the size of their nuclear potentials, then all this is frankly hypocritical ... The data on the size of the arsenals of the United Kingdom and France are not verifiable at all and are purely declarative," Ryabkov said in a statement.
Russia is transparent in nuclear matters and acts in a responsible manner, Ryabkov said, when asked about the G7 statement that claimed that only the Western nations are transparent when it comes to nuclear weapons.
💬 "Firstly, the declared figures are often fictitious or conditional. In particular, the US data on New START recently published by the US State Department continues to be misleading due to its inconsistency with the New START counting rules, which Washington is stubbornly trying to circumvent by unscrupulous manipulations," Ryabkov added.
He later emphasized that the West is trying to undermine China and Russia with their rhetoric on nuclear weapons.
