Russia's S-350 Vityaz surface-to-air missile (SAM) system shot down Ukrainian aircraft in the special operation zone in fully automatic mode, without the participation of an operator

A well-informed source told Sputnik that “for the first time in the world the Vityaz performed the fully automated detection, tracking and destruction of Ukrainian air targets in combat; the surface-to-air missiles downed several Ukrainian warplanes and unmanned aerial vehicles.”

According to the insider, "the automatic mode was implemented on the basis of the principle that a person does not cancel the decisions of the SAM’s artificial intelligence elements within the framework of the emerging air combat situation, namely, an operator just did not interfere in the running of the system, thus confirming the operation algorithm chosen by the machine.”

The sources explained that the Vityaz simultaneously worked in active and passive radar modes, something that boosts the SAM’s jamming immunity, as well as its ability to detect and classify targets.

The S-350 Vityaz, which entered service with the Russian armed forces in 2019, is capable of effectively destroying both ballistic and aerodynamic targets.

Relations between Hungary and Sweden are poor and must improve before the Nordic state's bid for NATO membership is approved

"The political relationship between Sweden and Hungary is awfully wrong, and we have to improve first," Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said. "We would not like to import conflicts into NATO first."

Earlier, Orban's chief of staff said that the bilateral ties between Hungary and Sweden have hit an all-time low. He also accused Swedish politicians of "making a habit of continually questioning the state of democracy in Hungary," as well as "insulting Hungarian voters and MPs, and, through them, the whole of Hungary."

No date has been set yet as to when the Hungarian parliament will vote on the Swedish bid for admission, which has to be ratified by all current members.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu expects that Tayyip Erdogan will gain over 56% of votes in the second round of the presidential election

"In the first round, 49.5% is a figure that every leader in the world cannot even dream of. As a result, the people showed their goodwill, but in the second round, as you can see, more than 56% will vote for the incumbent president. Polls are showing the development in this direction. People abroad are eager to vote," Cavusoglu told Turkish broadcaster on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Sinan Ogan, the third-placed candidate in the first round, announced on Monday his support for Erdogan in the upcoming runoff and called on his supporters to vote for the incumbent president.

Better World: Ancient Apex Predator Likely Migrated to South Africa From Russia to Survive

🌍 Unlike the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs some 66 million years ago, the Permian–Triassic extinction event of 252 million years ago took place over a long period of time, with species dying off one by one as the situation grew worse.

Fossils of a tiger-sized, saber-toothed mammal precursor known as Inostrancevia discovered in South Africa by the international team of paleontologists offer a glimpse into the drama of an apex predator that migrated halfway around the globe over several generations in a last-ditch effort to live.

Australia allocates $15 million for Quad Leaders' Meeting

The Quad Leaders' Meeting, originally scheduled to take place in Sydney, was preponed after US President Biden cut short his visit. Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong disclosed that around $15 million was allocated for the summit in the federal budget.

Despite Biden's cancellation, Wong described the engagement between the Quad leaders and the bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Albanese and President Biden as successful. The meeting was eventually held in Hiroshima on 20 May.

The Russian armed forces destroy about 10,000 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles every month, or more than 300 drones per day

A new report, revealed by the UK's Royal United Services Institute (RASI), called electronic warfare a "critical component" of Russia's tactics, which the RASI said adds to “the staggering losses” of Ukrainian UAVs.

According to the survey, Russia maintains “a major electronic-warfare system roughly every 6 miles (9.6 km)” along the conflict's approximately 750 mile (1,207 km) front line.

“Sophisticated Russian systems such as the Shipovnik-Aero jamming station are hard to detect and can imitate other signals,” the RASI pointed out.

The station, the report added, also has an advanced array of effects for downing the Ukrainian drones, including interfering with their navigational systems.

The survey comes after a UK magazine quoted an unnamed Ukrainian defense industry source as saying that Russia “performs black magic” when it comes to its anti-drone defense systems.
