Beijing will boost the dialogue with all parties to the Ukrainian crisis, including Russia, and make efforts to reach a political settlement

"Based on provisions of the document 'China's Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis,' Beijing will continue to boost cooperation and dialogue with all parties, including Russia, and make real efforts for a political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis," Chinese Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs Li Hui said during the meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, as quoted in a statement by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The Chinese ministry stated following the meeting that Russia and China would continue to increase bilateral and multilateral cooperation in various areas and enrich their relations "in a new era."

In February, China released a 12-point document ennoscriptd "China's Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis," which underscores respect for the sovereignty of all countries, the cessation of hostilities and the resumption of peace talks between Moscow and Kiev. Russian President Vladimir Putin said that some of the provisions of the plan could be a basis for a peace settlement, "if the West and Kiev are ready for it."

Egyptian archaeologists unveil two largest embalming workshops found to date

The mission, led by the head of Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, Mostafa Waziri, also found two burial sites and some other artifacts, the regional broadcaster reported. The workshops, one of which was used for mummifying humans and the other for embalming animals, date back to the Thirtieth Dynasty of Egypt and the beginning of the Ptolemaic period, Waziri was cited as saying.

Archaeologists unearthed an intact tomb around 4,400 years old, which is believed to have belonged to a high-ranking official who lived during the Fifth Dynasty of Egypt. Other tombs dating back to the Old and New Kingdoms were also discovered there.

Saqqara is home to the oldest necropolis, whose first burials date back to the First Dynasty of Egypt, and the iconic Step Pyramid of Djoser.

EU Commissioner says Twitter quitting bloc's voluntary pact against disinformation

"Twitter leaves EU voluntary Code of Practice against disinformation. But obligations remain. You can run but you can’t hide. Beyond voluntary commitments, fighting disinformation will be legal obligation under # DSA [Digital Services Act] as of August 25. Our teams will be ready for enforcement," European Commissioner for Internal Market Thierry Breton tweeted on Friday.

Last February, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell expressed concerns that Twitter's policy under its new owner, Elon Musk, would harm efforts to counter disinformation and manipulations since the platform removed free access to its application programming interfaces, among other things.

🇺🇸 Deal ‘in principle’ made to raise US debt ceiling before default

Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) have reached a deal to raise the government’s debt ceiling limit ahead just days before the start of June when the US Treasury Department said the government was at risk of defaulting on its obligations.

McCarthy confirmed the news on Twitter, saying that he and Biden had come to an agreement that was “worthy of the American people.”

It has been reported the deal will limit non-defense-related spending to 2023 levels for two years and will increase the debt ceiling for a similar amount of time. The deal will prevent any more debt ceiling standoffs until after the 2024 Presidential election.

In delivered remarks, McCarthy said that there was still a lot of work to be done before the bill is ready to be presented to Congress for a vote. He said he expects the text of the bill to be completed and posted Sunday, with the House voting on it on Wednesday.
