🇬🇧🚙🇨🇳 UK concerned about China's possible spying using imported electric cars

Senior officials of the United Kingdom have raised suspicions that electric cars imported from China to help hit net zero targets in the country are being used by Beijing to gather information on Britons, The Telegraph reported on Saturday, citing government sources.

"If it is manufactured in a country like China, how certain can you be that it won’t be a vehicle for collecting intel and data? If you have electric vehicles manufactured by countries who are already using technology to spy, why would they not do the same here?" a government source told the newspaper.

🇬🇧🌳 UK military’s claims about shrubbery stalling Kiev’s counteroffensive ‘stupid’ and ‘ignorant’

Former US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) analyst Larry Johnson has lashed out at the UK military over allegations about vegetation being a factor in stalling the advance of Ukrainian troops.

“Who knew that all the United States had to do to ensure the success of Ukraine’s counteroffensive was to provide them with a brigade of weed wackers, so they could have gone out there and cut down all the weeds,” Johnson said in an interview with a YouTube channel.

🇺🇸🇨🇳 The US’ strategy to curb Chinese semiconductor industry, including attempts to persuade Asian allies to introduce restrictions against China, could lead to the disruption of supply chains and other countries forming alliances against the US, a South Korean lawmaker and former Samsung executive, Yang Hyang-ja said on Sunday.

"If [Washington] continues to try to punish other nations and to pass bills and implement ‘America First’ policies in an unpredictable manner, other countries could form an alliance against the US," Yang said in an interview with a British business daily.

The current situation indicates that the Ukrainian Army has “a breakthrough problem” when it comes to their counteroffensive, Barry Posen, a Ford international professor of political science, has claimed

Posen recalled that the Ukrainian government earlier stated that the counteroffensive’s goal was to retake control of all the territory in Ukraine that Kiev lost since 2014.

Posen argued that “to achieve this goal through military action, the Ukrainian military must accomplish one of the most daunting of military tasks: It must break through dense, well-prepared defensive positions” of the Russian army and “move quickly toward an important geographic objective such as the Sea of Azov.”

🇺🇸🇭🇺 The US’ demand to hand over the data of 900,000 Hungarian citizens living abroad is unprecedented and unrealistic, Hungarian Deputy Interior Minister said, adding that Budapest would not share the information to avoid putting its citizens in danger

The main reason why Hungary has not agreed to hand over the data is security concerns, he added.

On August 1, the US embassy in Budapest said that Washington had reduced the validity of entry permits under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP) for Hungarian citizens from two years to one year and limited them to a single use, citing security concerns over Hungary's simplified naturalization program.
