🇷🇺 Russian strike hits gathering of Ukrainian military experts in Chernigov disguised as civil meeting
The strike targeted Ukraine’s "Angry Birds" (Люті пташки) festival, where attendees were specifically instructed to refrain from wearing military uniform, a source who got hold of a copy of an invitation to the festival told Sputnik.
🗒 "We urge you to come to the event in civilian clothes. If possible, change out of a military uniform to avoid identifying the event as being involved in the military sphere," the invitation reads.
It also says that the event is closed, as the premises contains information sensitive to the country's defense capability, i.e. development prototypes, and that most of the participants are active military personnel. Therefore, participants can be filmed or photographed only with their prior verbal consent, the invitation says.

🇫🇷🇳🇪 France was one step away from military intervention in Niger, media reveals
The reason for the change in plans was the transition of local security forces to the side of the new authorities. The former authorities signed a document at the request of France, formally requesting "support" and "allowing" intervention and even strikes, a source in ex-President Mohamed Bazoum's entourage told the media.
According to the source, French units arrived at the headquarters of the National Guard of Niger at 4 am on July 27. They had about a dozen cars, and helicopters were also ready. Bazoum opposed the operation, while Paris also took a restrained position, since part of the Niger military, in support of which the French forces could carry out the operation, had already sided with the "National Council for the Defense of the Fatherland" created by the rebels.

🇧🇫🇫🇷 Burkina Faso wants a "win-win partnership" with mutual respect and equality, the country's Defense Minister Kassoum Coulibaly told Sputnik Africa, commenting on deteriorating relations with France.
💬 "But can you be in partnership with someone and want to blind them, blindfold their eyes, shut their mouth, close their ears?" he wondered, adding: "Be with someone who sees himself as the great master and you, you are the slave? No, it won't work [...]. We're not driving them [the French] out, it's the fact that's happening, it's their behavior that's doing it".

🇨🇳China conducts military drills near Taiwan as a warning to 'separatist forces', Shi Yi, the spokesman for the Eastern Theater Command of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), said.
The Chinese military practiced coordinating maneuvers of vessels and aircraft and intercepting control communications, as well as tested real combat capabilities during joint operations, the official stated.

🇷🇺🇺🇸 Russia refutes speculations about the prisoner swap of Gershkovich and Whelan and urges US to continue talks
Media reports about the readiness of the United States to consider the exchange of US citizens Evan Gershkovich and Paul Whelan for Russians convicted in the US for hacking are speculations, and, in matters of a possible prisoner swap, Moscow urges Washington to focus on non-public professional dialogue via a special channel only, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Sputnik.
She added that the exchange of Russians Konstantin Yaroshenko and Viktor Bout for US citizens Trevor Reed and Brittney Griner had taken place thanks to such "quiet diplomacy."
