Every year on 3 September, Russia commemorates Solidarity Day, contributing to the global fight against terrorism, 2023 being no exception
🕯 This day came about after the tragic events of early September 2004 when from the 1st to the 3rd of that month, one of the most heinous crimes not only in Russian but in global history, occurred after terrorists seized children, parents, and teachers as hostages in a school in the city of Beslan, North Ossetia.
🙏 For more than two-and-a-half days, militants held more than 1,100 people inside the booby-trapped building and 334 of the hostages were killed, including 186 children. However, thanks to a counter-terrorism operation, 811 lives were saved. Ten members of the FSB (Federal Security Service) and two members of the Ministry of Emergency Situations lost their life during their brave service.

🇮🇷 Iran goes on gold shopping spree as global dedollarization trend accelerates
The country has been quietly ramping up its foreign purchases of gold, adding over 4.1 tons of standard gold ingots to the country’s coffers in the first five months of the Iranian calendar year (March 21-August 22).
Both the Iranian state and private citizens appear to have been turning to gold recently, with the World Gold Council reporting in May that demand for gold coins and bars by Iranians had jumped dramatically, with investment soaring to 13 tons over the first months of 2023 – 26% more than the 10 ton five-year quarterly average, as citizens searched for solid stores of values amid inflation and sanctions-related pressures.

🗣️ On the myth of Western prosperity:
“Why is Western society still considered to be rich, to be prosperous? Because of inertia. I think the people who have experienced to live in the West could challenge this assertion of this status, that the Western world, Western society, is best. That's the past… So we should not reduce this problem to poor society - illiberal society, rich society - liberal society. That is not true anymore,” Alexander Dugin, one of the world’s most famous political philosophers, told Sputnik.

🇺🇸👨🏻🦳 US Congress is older than ever, but reform is unlikely, experts say
💬 "The US Congress and the Presidency constitute a gerontocracy, and I see no chance that such graybeards will reform themselves on that score anytime soon," John Seery, the George Irving Thompson memorial professor of government and professor of politics at Pomona College, summarized the situation.
💬 "The few times in the modern era that it has been considered in relation to, for example, President [Ronald] Reagan, have caused significant unease. No-one wants to be the person informing the president that they are no longer considered fit for office," Clodagh Harrington, a lecturer in US politics at University College Cork, said, commenting on whether a version of the 25th Amendment for members of Congress could be passed.
💬 "The difficulties of passing such an Amendment are nearly insurmountable, and I think the real problem is a corruption that has permeated our politics. I think the question to be asked is who, exactly, is benefitting from keeping such obviously incapable seniors such as Joe Biden, Diane Feinstein, and Mitch McConnell in office?" Stephen Presser, the Raoul Berger professor of legal history emeritus at Northwestern University’s Pritzker School of Law, said.

🇺🇸 Soros Foundation vows to stop 'MAGA-style Republicans' from winning the 2024 election
💬 "As someone who spends up to half their time working on the continent and thinks former United States President Donald Trump – or at least someone with his isolationist and anti-European policies –will be the Republican nominee, I believe a MAGA-style Republican victory in next year’s US presidential election could, in the end, be worse for the EU than for the US. Such an outcome will imperil European unity and undermine the progress achieved on many fronts in response to the war in Ukraine," Alexander Soros opined.

🇺🇸 Ramaswamy to vote for Trump in the 2024 election even if he's convicted
"I still expect that Donald Trump or whoever the Republican nominee will be better than the alternative, and I care about what actually moves this nation forward," Ramaswamy told the American broadcaster when asked why he was going to vote for Trump even in the event of conviction.
Ramaswamy also pledged to pardon Trump if he is elected US president because he believes it may help to reunite the country that split on the issue of an ongoing court trial against the former US leader.

🇺🇸⚔️🇨🇳 US to be 'as strict as possible' limiting China's access to cutting-edge chips
The reason for this was that technological developments may be allegedly used to boost the Asian nation's military capacity, US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said on Sunday.
"We are not going to sell the most sophisticated American chips to China that they want for their military capacity," Raimondo told the American broadcaster, adding that the US will keep selling less sophisticated chips to China, still worth billions of dollars.

🇯🇵☢️ Cancer risk surges from even a tiny trace of tritium, an expert warns amid the Fukushima water dump
The presence of even a low concentration of tritium in water is known to increase the risk of cancer by over 500%, Moscow State University oceanographer Sergey Mukhametov has told Sputnik.
As for the long-term effects of trace amounts of the hydrogen-derived isotope present in the filtered cooling water being dumped from the Fukushima nuclear site, scientists are yet to determine that, he added.
