🇺🇸 US Congressman Matt Gaetz said on Tuesday that he has drafted a subpoena for President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, and urged House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy to end the months of inaction by signing the document.
"After eight months of inaction, I have taken the liberty of drafting a subpoena to Hunter Biden. It simply requires your date and signature. Millions of Americans are wondering if you're serious," Gaetz said via the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
The subpoena requests that Hunter Biden turn over any and all records of contracts, agreements, financial agreements and communications with his father between 2008 and the present as well as all communications pertaining to his contacts with foreign and domestic business partners.

🇺🇸 US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has postponed a vote on a stopgap spending bill amid his attempts to appease a small but powerful right-wing faction of the Republican Party as a government shutdown looms.
The procedural vote originally scheduled for Tuesday afternoon would have approved a 30-day government funding bill, moving it to the Senate and opening the door for wider talks. Some sort of funding bill must be passed by September 26 to avert a shutdown on September 30, but in lieu of agreement on larger appropriations bills, lawmakers have focused on passing a short-term funding bill to give them more time to negotiate.

🇺🇳 UN chief Antonio Guterres said he will appoint a new panel on artificial intelligence, which will be tasked with delivering recommendations on addressing the new technology by the end of the year.
"Now AI is on everyone’s lips - a subject of both awe, and fear. Even some of those who developed generative AI are calling for greater regulation," Guterres said during remarks to the General Assembly. "To help advance the search for concrete governance solutions, I will appoint this month a High-Level Advisory Body on Artificial Intelligence - which will provide recommendations by the end of this year."

A retired Bundeswehr colonel and military expert has dismantled the outright lies and half-truths he says are being told in Western media about the “success” of Kiev’s counteroffensive.
“We mustn’t forget one thing: that despite all the reports about successes that we keep hearing [from the Ukrainian side], what’s being talked about are tactical battles, local successes, we’re talking about two, three or even five kilometers of advance, which then at some point again go back to Russia’s control,” Colonel (ret.) Wolfgang Richter said in an interview with German media.
Furthermore, Richter expects the intensity of hostilities to drop dramatically as weather conditions worsen a month to a month-and-a-half from now. Accordingly, the retired officer predicts that it will be next to impossible for Ukraine to achieve a breakthrough.

🇯🇵 Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications issued a report confirming an aging population as an ongoing concern in the world’s third-largest economy.
The report, released as Japan celebrates its Respect for the Aged Day, placed the number of people in Japan over 80 at nearly 12.6 million among a population of 124 million. Meanwhile, the number of people over 65, which the country defines as “elderly,” reached more than 36 million.
Perhaps chief among the issues raised is the imperative to maintain a workforce sufficient to support the country’s various social programs. Pension obligations, health care, and other services demand more funding as Japan’s population ages, but a graying society means fewer people are able to generate income and pay taxes.

The Israel's new AI-powered Barak tank is now operational and being integrated into the Armored Corps, according to the Defense Ministry.
This tank, developed over five years, incorporates advanced targeting abilities to monitor and target enemy forces preemptively. It also features a system that enables drivers to see outside the tank using Elbit Systems' IronVision helmet, addressing navigation challenges, especially in urban areas.
The Barak is designed to adapt to soldiers' needs and will gradually replace older tanks in the IDF.

Last week, Ukraine refused to accept 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks from Germany due to their unsatisfactory technical condition, German media reported, citing sources.
According to the publication, Kiev has informed a special committee within the German Ministry of Defense that the German armored vehicles that arrived in Poland need to be repaired.
However, since neither the necessary technical personnel nor the required spare parts are available, sending the Leopards to Ukraine "makes no sense," the report said.

🪖 Ukraine’s air defense missiles will continue falling on civilians: Here’s why
The September 6 incident in Konstantinovka wasn’t the first incident of its kind, and given the air defense strategy adopted by Ukraine’s military, and the technical means at its disposal, it won’t be the last, Alexey Leonkov, a veteran Russian military analyst and editor of Arsenal of the Fatherland, a Russian military affairs magazine, told Sputnik.
💬 “We’ve observed failures in the work of Ukraine’s air defense forces before. They’re taking place due to the fact that air defense systems have been deployed without taking into account the features of the urban environment, without taking into account the operation of the systems,” Leonkov explained.
Worse yet, he noted, Ukraine has been running low on munitions for its air defenses, leaving them scraping the bottom of the barrel and turning to older, Soviet-made Buk and S-300 missiles which are long past their "use by" date.

🇵🇰 Pakistan Responds to Reports of Selling Weapons to Ukraine
📄 Pakistan has termed a report published by an American media house that claimed Islamabad had sent arms and ammunition to Ukraine in exchange for the $3 billion in IMF assistance announced earlier this year as "baseless and fabricated".
🗯 "The IMF Standby Arrangement for Pakistan was successfully negotiated between Pakistan and the IMF to implement difficult but essential economic reforms. Giving any other color to these negotiations is disingenuous", Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, a Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokeswoman, said in a press conference in Islamabad.

🧠🔌 Elon Musk's Neuralink starts recruiting volunteers to plug their brains into AI
Musk’s Neuralink took to Twitter to announce: “We’re excited to announce that recruitment is open for our first-in-human clinical trial! If you have quadriplegia due to cervical spinal cord injury or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), you may qualify.”
Despite receiving the FDA’s approval to conduct human trials, the company faced scrutiny after allegations of animal abuse following reports that it killed about 1,500 animals since 2018. The same report had claimed that the number of animal deaths was too high because of Musk’s demands to speed up research.
