South Korea held a massive military parade in Seoul on Tuesday dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of the nation’s armed forces.

Some 6,000 troops and up to 200 pieces of military equipment marched and rolled through the streets of Seoul, including tanks and amphibious assault vehicles, drones, missiles, and air defense systems, with many of them manufactured by major South Korean conglomerates you’ve probably heard of.

Senator Bob Menendez is accused of using his chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee to lobby for a two-year arms embargo on Egypt over alleged human rights abuses to be dropped. The indictment claims he took payments from the Egyptian government through intermediaries, including via a paid position where he hardly ever showed up for work.

The senator also allegedly took bribes in return for political favors from a firm exporting halal meat to the Muslim North African nation.

Law professor Kim Keenan told Sputnik that Menendez had previously escaped prosecution for corruption in 2015 after the jury failed to reach a verdict — "but here we are in 2023, and he's accused of misusing his position as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee."

The US needs to adapt policies to the dynamic region which is growing younger and more urban. The continent "has to be at the table," Special Assistant to the President and National Security Council Senior Director for African Affairs Judd Devermont said.

🇬🇧 UK Navy vessels may all contain traces of life-threatening asbestos

All four of the UK’s Vanguard-class of submarines, which are equipped with Trident ballistic missiles and carry the UK's nuclear deterrent, have asbestos-containing materials, UK media reported.

The Daring-class Type 45 destroyers and the Duke-class Type 23 frigates, as well as an Astute-class nuclear-powered submarines, six Duke-class minesweepers and 28 Wildcat helicopters are said to also have asbestos-containing materials.

Previously the UK Defense Ministry had acknowledged that as many as 2,699 pieces of its military hardware contain asbestos. The equipment includes 765 Bulldog armored personnel carriers, 324 Challenger 2 tanks, 841 Pinzgauer military utility vehicles and 540 Warrior infantry fighting vehicles.
