🗣 "It is important to also recognize the attack by Hamas did not happen in a vacuum. The Palestinian people have been subjected to 56 years of suffocating occupation," UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at UNSC. Subscribe to @SputnikInt
🗣 The words of the UN Secretary-General, that the Hamas attack on Israel did not occur in a vacuum but after a 56-year occupation of the Palestinian people, sparked discussions in the media:
▪️ According to the Financial Times, this is Guterres's harshest statement about the war in the Gaza Strip, and it caused a furious reaction from Israel.
▪️ The Times of Israel quotes Foreign Minister Eli Cohen as saying that the organization faces "its darkest times" under the leadership of Guterres.
▪️ The Guardian notes that the UN Secretary-General made a speech after Israeli airstrikes killed more than 700 people in one day, and hospitals in Gaza began to close due to fuel shortages.

🗣 Palestinian Health Minister Mai al-Kaila to Sputnik Arabic:
💬 'The healthcare system has completely collapsed, the Gaza Strip has run out of medicines for cancer, diabetes and kidney failure, and there is an acute shortage of medical supplies. Fuel is urgently needed to restore the functioning of essential medical facilities. The humanitarian aid received is a drop in the bucket; safe corridors must be ensured for its delivery.'
The head of the department also spoke of the huge number of wounded who are forced to wait their turn at the doors of hospitals and in the corridors. She also pointed out that victims receive burns that indicate the use of weapons prohibited by international conventions. All these cases are being documented for later presentation to the competent international authorities.

🇿🇼 SADC, AU calling for lifting of Western sanctions against Zimbabwe on Anti-Sanctions Day
The appeal for "immediate" lifting of Western sanctions is made "as a firm request to the International Community for a new rhetoric, story, and direction for the country," according to João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço, President of the Republic of Angola and the Chairperson of SADC.
The African Union Commission's Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat, in his turn, argued that the African Union "associates itself" with the SADC Chairperson’s statement and reaffirmed "the continued commitment of the African Union to support the brotherly nation of Zimbabwe.”
The statements come as today the world marks the fifth anniversary of the Anti-Sanctions Day, established in 2019 in a bid to protest unilateral restrictions imposed against Zimbabwe by the United States and the EU.
