🇺🇸 The days of White House reporters engaging in actual journalism by asking the president tough, unexpected questions appear to be a thing of the past, with Joe Biden spotted with a cheat sheet featuring the names and photos of reporters to call upon.

The naughty notecard, spotted by eagle-eyed internet users who watched Biden’s Wednesday press conference at the White House alongside Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, appears to show four names and photos Biden was meant to tap for questions.

Biden dutifully followed through, with all four names in the list, including White House correspondent Joey Garrison, PBS’s Laura Barron-Lopez, The Australian reporter Jeff Chambers and Australian Channel 10 politics editor Ashleigh Raper getting called upon to ask their questions, with the rest resigned to the role of glorified stenographers.

Media reports suggest that the US Navy's ambitious initiative to build 12 intercontinental ballistic missile submarines might exceed its budget by a hefty 20 percent, equivalent to $20 billion. This financial overrun poses a potential setback for the project at the heart of the Navy's modernization program.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO), in its latest Navy shipbuilding report released on Thursday, cites "current industry conditions" as the rationale for the updated $120 billion program estimate.

According to the budget office's assessment, the USS District of Columbia, the lead submarine in the class, is expected to carry a price tag of $17.5 billion — $1.7 billion above the Navy's calculations. The Navy's upcoming fleet of the remaining 11 submarines is estimated at an average of $9.2 billion each, according to CBO figures. This represents a significant $1.5 billion surge in cost per vessel compared to initial projections.

🇺🇸🇷🇺 John Kirby’s projection of new Russian tactical gains in Ukraine marks a shift in the thinking of the US establishment, which has grown weary of the unwinnable proxy war in Eastern Europe as a new conflict escalates in the Middle East, CIA veteran Philip Giraldi told Sputnik.

💬 "John Kirby's comments reflect the fact that even though the White House continues to promise support of Ukraine 'until we win' there is a growing appreciation that the war is not winnable by Kiev in any conventional sense and also that support for the Ukrainians is waning both in Europe and the US," the former CIA field officer said.

Per Giraldi, the Middle East theater is more important for Washington in many respects: US bases have increasingly been targeted by militias in Syria and Iraq since the beginning of the Gaza war; what's more, Israel is an old American ally and the US establishment has long relied on Jewish campaign donations and media support, the CIA veteran underscored.

🇮🇷🇮🇱 Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian said on Friday that Israel's security and political systems had been "totally collapsed" and that the only thing still functioning in the country was its "war machine."

Meanwhile, the heads of Middle Eastern countries and groups supporting Palestine have much more serious plans than what was previously observed, Amir Abdollahian said. The top Iranian diplomat told American media he had met with a number of regional leaders as well as with "the leaders of the resistance in Lebanon and also the Palestinian groups."

"What I gathered from the plans that they have – they have their finger on the trigger. You know, much more powerful and deeper than what you've witnessed," the minister said.

"Between Oct. 17-27, US and Coalition Forces have been attacked at least 14 separate times in Iraq and six separate times in Syria by a mix of one-way attack drones and rockets, for a total of 20 attacks to date," Ryder said.

Ryder said that most of the attacks were disrupted by defensive actions and failed to reach their targets.
